A terrible experience upon arriving in Osaka from a long flight - very stubborn and unpleasant service.
We felt that the staff/owners/family at this Ryoken are unpleasant and took advantage of us. They are not the kind and hospitable people mentioned in other reviews, at least not when things don't go smoothly (which is pretty common when travelling).
We booked this after reading the reviews on this place, which were very encouraging. We wanted to try a Ryokan. The cost was approximately USD125 for a triple room or around ¥19,000. We booked with Agoda and I forgot to correct the settings - we were one adult and three kids (girls) between 12-16. We were initially refused to use the triple room due to the occupancy on the booking being 2 adults.
Rather than play games, I just asked them to refund the booking and we would go elsewhere. The owners/staff were adamant that they would not issue a refund and we could not stay in a triple room due to the occupancy on the booking being two adults. We were also informed by the lady owner/staff member they were full and had no additional rooms.
I politely said (using Google translate ) if they would not issue a refund I would report them to the police. The older male owner/staff member was cheeky and picked up the phone and offered to call the police. I find it funny now looking back, but at the time I was not amused. I felt he was rude and somehow enjoying our unfortunate situation.
Eventually the man said we could add an extra mattress for ¥6,000 or around USD40. I of course paid - wondering why he didn't just ask for it at the start! After paying him (no receipt), what made the ordeal particularly galling was they said we could book another room (and yet they said they were full 30 mins beforehand).
Even without this experience this ryoken is absolutely not worth ¥25,000 for a triple room. The rooms are very simple and small. The bathroom is tiny. There is nothing unique or charming about this place contrary to what other...
