As a traveler with status as Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt, I had a difficult time trying to find a suitable hotel for my 7 night stay in Sapporo. The three aforementioned brands weren't available in Sapporo at the time of my stay. After some research, the Mercure looked like it had the right balance of price, location, and quality.
I was not disappointed.
The hotel was easily accessible via the airport limousine shuttle. Upon exiting the shuttle, I walked the half a block, crossed the highway, and walked another half a block to The Mercure. I recommend doing a quick Google Street View tour prior to arriving in Susukino to get oriented quicker on your trip.
The staff at reception were fantastic. They were polite and welcoming. It was nice to see smiling faces after being on the plane for so long.
We paid for the privilege rooms which were on the higher floors. The view was great and looked beyond the city to the mountains. The size of the rooms were about what you'd expect for most Japanese hotel rooms. For my wife and I, the size was adequate and allowed us enough room to store each of our suitcases elevated off of the hotel room floor. The room also felt clean and updated.
The bed was firm and comfortable. The king sized bed was made up of two twin beds pushed together and felt very spacious for the two of us. The hotel also provided two firm and two soft pillows. I love when hotels do this because I generally prefer flatter firmer pillows.
The bathroom was clean, modern, and practical. I often use points to stay at upscale hotels and while fancy, the bathrooms aren't always very practical. The Mercure's bathroom was just right.
This hotel's location really shines. Transportation, shopping and activities are all within walking distance. It's been a long time since I've stayed somewhere this convenient.
The only negative for me was that the hotel can get a bit crowded at times. Specifically, large groups of tourists were sometimes crowding the (not so large) lobby area. It seems as though they all arrived on a tour bus to check in at the same time. This also affects how crowded elevators can get at times. As someone who doesn't like crowded elevators, I was always a little anxious about what kind of elevator ride I'd have (and how many people would crowd in). But these are minor quibbles compared to everything great about this hotel.
Given the price I'd stay here again. The most important things for me are cleanliness, friendly and helpful staff, and excellent location. The Mercure had all of these things.
One last tip - to get back to the airport, you need to board at the bus stop in front of Sushi Zanmai. There are instructions showing you how to use your IC card to catch the bus at...
Read moreLightning protection! Mercure Sapporo sucks! DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!First of all, the structure of the hotel is very strange. The building is not the front desk. You have to take the elevator to the 3rd floor to check in. After check-in, you have to take the elevator in another corner on the same floor to go to the room on the 5th-10th floor. After that, every time I entered or exited from the hotel, I had to change to two elevators, which was very troublesome. Not to mention that there were many people entering and exiting the building, and I often had to line up twice to take the elevator. Then, from the moment I entered the elevator, I could always see the dust floating in the air! The same is true in the room, if you move a little, you can see the dust floating! This has never been the case in other hotels in Japan! In addition, the hotel is extremely stingy, and there is no bottled water in the room. This time I went to Hokkaido and stayed in 4 hotels. The other three hotels will replenish 2 bottles of water in the room every day. One hotel also sent 6 bottles of welcome drinks in the refrigerator, and some hotels have drinks in the lobby. Only this hotel told me that they don't provide bottled water. Toiletries are also the worst. The quality of the wooden handle toothbrush is not as good as better disposable chopsticks. The toothpaste is wrapped in paper and smells weird! After brushing at night, the unsealed toothpaste has to be saved until the next morning to use again. Really speechless.I originally booked this hotel for the location, but in fact there are many hotels with better locations than his. It is still a long way to go to parco, Tanukikoji, and the Ferris wheel. There is no advantage in price either.Really not worth it! I hope everyone avoids...
Read moreMy recent stay at this hotel in Sapporo was nothing short of exceptional. The rooms were spacious and impeccably clean, making for a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere throughout my stay. What truly stood out was the thoughtful inclusion of a variety of complimentary drinks and coffee, a small but delightful touch that added to the overall convenience.
However, the highlight of my experience was undoubtedly the bed. It was exceptionally comfortable, surpassing the standards set by other hotels I've stayed in. It made for a restful night's sleep, ensuring I was fully rejuvenated for each day of my visit.
The hotel staff also left a lasting impression. They were incredibly friendly and proficient in English, which made communication effortless and enjoyable. Their warm hospitality enhanced the overall experience.
Location-wise, the hotel couldn't be better situated. It's right in the heart of Sapporo, with easy access to trains and conveniently located 7-11 and Lawson stores just steps away. It truly is the ideal base for exploring the city.
If I were to suggest an improvement, it would be to have more laundry machines on each floor. Currently, there are only three machines, which can be a bit limited during peak times.
In conclusion, my stay at this hotel was top-notch. From the comfortable rooms to the friendly staff and prime location, it's undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in Sapporo. Highly recommended for anyone visiting this...
