This little Hotel was a revelation, we were greeted by the two lovely ladies who turned out to be the owners, I have never been so warmly and sincerely welcomed anywhere before. The hotel was impeccably clean, the rooms where a mixture of traditional rooms and western style rooms, I had a traditional room which was beautiful and extremely comfortable, they had an internal bath house and an open air bath, we sat for hours on a freezing cold night enjoying the view of the stars from the roof top mineral spring bath and having a beer or two. There is a small souvenir shop and an excellent coffee machine, they do provide traditional Japanese meals but unfortunately we had arrived to late to try the food and were leaving early the next day. Everyone who worked there tried their very best to accomodate us and help us wherever possible- even noticing when we walked outside without umbrellas to then sprint after us to give us two umbrellas. When we were shown our room, one of the hosts showed us around and also gave us a complimentary tea ceremony which was a lovely cultural experience. There are also separate men and women observation deck tubs if you'd like gender specific privacy, but there is no shower available beforehand or in any of the rooms. It's assumed that you'll go to the indoor co-ed showers/onsen on the first floor to wash up first before heading to the observation deck baths.
Take the wooden dishes that look like bongos, fill with water, and rinse your feet/back outside of the bath before stepping in to remove debris and get your body acclimated to the water.
During the day, you have a clear view of the beautiful mountainscape in Gunma! At night, the chilly air helps to offset the heat...
