Kogure hotel is a fantastic place and we highly recommend it.||The hotel is in Ikaho Onsen town, pretty central on the mountain, a short walk to the main street. Their property is very large with lots of parking. The hotel is really nice, spacious and very well-maintained. It is a pleasure to walk around the hotel. You will get a very friendly greeting and welcome drink in their lounge when you arrive. The service is excellent and the hotel is beautiful. The hotel is non-smoking except designated smoking boxes.||Our room was on the 7th floor, top. It was a twin near the corner and has a beautiful view. The room itself seems newly renovated and felt perfect. ||The dinner was in a private room. Very nice dinner. Breakfast was in the main dining room, half buffet and half served. Food was good. No complaints. We travelled with our 7 year old and they were attentive to her allergies. ||Now for the best part. The hot spring, public bath. Wow. I have been to many onsens in Japan but this was certainly one of the top, if not the very best. The public baths are huge with so many varieties of baths. The atmosphere and design was great. The water quality at Ikaho is truly amazing. Beautiful and will not disappoint. They switch the baths for men and women overnight, so be sure to try both times. The sauna was closed due to corona virus.||We went to Ikaho Green Bokujo (farm), which is a 10 minute drive away. Ikaho is a nice onsen town to visit.||The hotel was managing social distancing, etc... for corona virus prevention. No weird or awkward things, just good common sense. It was comfortable and appreciated.||I highly recommend Kogure hotel....
Read moreWe were given a night at Kogure by some Japanese friends as a Wedding present so I can't comment on price but if you are looking to splurge on an Onsen experience I would highly recommend Kogure.||Our room was huge with a private bath on the deck & dinner served in the room. The dinner was amazing - we were speechless. A huge range of food so there is something for everyone & all beautifully fresh. I would suggest doing dinner this way.||Bedding was Tatami style so if you're not used to that I think they offer Western Style rooms but you would be loosing a lot of the experience.||The Onsen facilities at this hotel are great - big range of different baths both indoor & outdoor that never felt too busy. Very clean & big changing/shower areas. They also switch each morning between the male & female so if you stay overnight you get to experience all the different baths.||We also had a massage which was easy to arrange (even with our limited Japanese) & very good.||From start to finish the service & facilities at this hotel were faultless - valet parking, huge windows in reception overlooking the hills & even some staff who spoke some English. It is not far from the main attraction of Ikaho which is the Stone Steps.||If you're looking for an authentic onsen hotel with great service but all the mod cons this is a...
Read moreThe service was impeccable, from start to finish it really represented true Japanese hospitality and detail!! The gold onsen was very special and even though there was a lot of guests and a lot of people in the onsen right after check in - it was big enough it did not feel cramped. But when it’s empty it feels a little ghostly… especially the walk and escalator down to the onsen.
That being said, even though we got the modern room it still felt a little dated. The hotel was huge but a lot of the details, white lighting in the dining hall, hallway lighting etc made it feel aged / not luxury. It’s definitely more of a traditional Onsen hotel in every sense. They have definitely renovated to modernise it but you a lot of it feels very 2000’s era.
The kaieseki was very good, usually at these places it’s hard to eat for foreign taste buds but everything was great here. Breakfast tempura was good, udon was disappointing (not bouncy as I assumed). They catered carefully to the allergy we had & dining service was also impeccable. I especially loved the chart showing where each ingredients are from, which farm etc. Mostly all Gunma region which made the entire meal feel very special.
Overall it was a really good experience and I highly...
