We were walking the Shikoku Henro as 3 travelers and splurged on a stay at the Hotel Bokaiso. It was one of the best decisions and the highlights of our 6 week walk. The accomodations were clean, luxurious and views absolutely stunning. Two of us had a couples room and our third person had her own room. We were all so happy we were almost giddy. We had requested vegan dinners for two of us and the hotel served us a delicious hot pot meal with mushrooms and all kinds of other fresh vegetables. There is a really interesting structure next to the hotel that is spectacular to walk through at night and free to the public (Yashimaru-Yashima Mountaintop Communal Facility). Plus the lookout in front of the hotel is not to miss. The attached pic shows that lookout. This was one of our top 3 stays in Shikoku out of about 60 different ones. Three thumbs up with our highest...

View is beautiful but frankly the service is normal. Once you check in you are told they don’t make up rooms every day which is fine for eco reasons, but when u return the next day it is still kinda shocking to see that overnight trash hasn’t been thrown which is not the case in other hotels when u opt for no cleaning. If we are expected to tie up the bag and leave em outside, then that should have been said upfront as well to manage expectations. I read some of the comments here before commenting and wish to say there’s nothing wrong with a quiet and low maintenance inn. Which is completely lovely. I have stayed at similar places at mount aso where we have had to return our own hotpots downstairs but never felt like the hospitality fell short. I think the issue is with the positioning of the property and the communication …the gentlemen was a lot more genuine...

Wonderful hide-away hotel with a breathtaking view. Pros: The view from the hotel is just breathtaking. the staff is great and the breakfasts were fabulous. And even changing from one day to the other. The rooms were great, too. we wish the hotel many more guests and income to continue developing the building and the surroundings. Could be better: It was a pity that there are no options for dinner in the hotel or nearby. We came back late one night and the friendly receptionist had to save us with nuts and chips. Also, some of the facilities look at bit dated. The style is not consistent (why the Indian decorations?) and the outside greenery could use some gardening.

I had an incredible experience at this hotel! From the moment I arrived, I was blown away. The rooms were not only spacious but also impeccably clean, offering breathtaking views of both the ocean and the mountains. The staff was exceptional, going above and beyond to ensure my stay was memorable. In particular, there was a lady who spoke fluent English, and she made sure I enjoyed a delicious vegan dinner even without an advanced reservation. It was a true delight to spend a few days in such a stunning location, especially as a perfect end to our Shikoku pilgrimage.

100% recommend staying here. Owner speaks English. I am completing my HENRO pilgrimage and this is a beautiful perfect place to sleep after Temple 84. Enjoy the amazing views and food. Large room, very comfortable western bed and large bath. I feel so rested! In person the views are even better than in the photos. I've walled the entire pilgrimage and the views from here are by far the best I've seen anywhere on Shikoku. Tomorrow you can stay next to Temple 87 and have an easy walk to 88 the following day.
