This beautiful hotel, which was completely renovated and opened under new owners in 2019, faces directly onto a lovely beach in a tranquil cove. It is set in the typically Okinawan village of Hoshitate, with a supermarket and ramen restaurant a short walk away. Kimiko and Yuji are the most delightful hosts, attentive, gentle, undemanding, and kind. Both speak excellent English (Yuji is also an English teacher in Ishigaki) and took care of all our organisational needs. Nothing was too much trouble, from calling tour companies to giving us lifts and helping us plan our days. The tranquility of the hotel and the great comfort of the rooms made for a restorative and recuperative stay. Indeed we extended twice, finding here everything we could have wished for. Though by no means necessary, we rented a car from a nearby company and easily got ourselves to all the wonders that Iriomote has to offer - snorkelling trips, a river cruise and treck to the waterfalls, a boatride to the paradisical beach at Funauki, and to excellent local Izakayas. Hotel Iriomote Island Hoshitate soon became our home and we loved walking along the beach in the mornings and stargazing after dinner at night. All the companies picked me up from the hotel which made it very convenient. I traveled solo and there were other travelers like me so I didn’t feel out of place. ||Yuji, the friendly owner, speaks great English which made the stay very easy. It’s pretty much everything you want for a few days or more as you explore the island - very clean with cute sea inspired decor, friendly, good food (the hotel has a restaurant serving delicious local food so there’s no need to go elsewhere.)||It’s a bit out of the way if you don’t have a car, but if you get your bus timing right (I used Google maps) it’s no problem and for me the pros of having a lovely beachfront hotel far outweigh the cons of getting there!||Thanks Yuji and family and...
