We made our reservation via email two months before our Kumano Kodo trip for a one-night stay, and it turned out to be the best experience of our entire journey. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to all fellow pilgrims — it’s truly a hidden gem.
What made it so memorable for us includes: A warm, home-like atmosphere – While not luxurious, everything was thoughtfully designed for comfort and relaxation after a long day of hiking. From the Toto smart toilet washing machine dryer and the spacious bathroom with a hot bathtub to the cozy living area perfect for bonding with friends, every detail brought a sense of peace and care. Thoughtful hospitality – We were welcomed with refreshing iced water and a glass of homemade plum wine, a delightful local touch that made us feel truly cared for. Comfortable and scenic rest – The sleeping area was spacious, with soft, clean bedding and a breathtaking view. Waking up to such serenity was a gift in itself. Heartfelt local connection – The 横矢 family were incredibly kind and welcoming. They showed us around the house, prepared delicious meals with care, and even sent us off with a local farewell tradition that deeply touched us.
Staying here felt like visiting a beloved friend’s house – warm, comforting, and full of heart. Thank you to the 横矢 family for making us feel at home on our...
Read moreAbsolutely incredible. I was the only guest for the night so they moved me from the annex to the main guesthouse. Just incredible. Hosts speak a little English if your Japanese is not good. The dinner was incredible, homemade, and worth every penny. Having the whole house to myself was spoiling I'll admit. They make their own umeshu, which is one of my personal favorite alcohols on the planet and it does not disappoint. You will get a glass with the incredible homemade dinner. They provide nice yukata's and winter coats to wear as no Central heat makes it a little chilly at night. Location wise, it's literally on the Kumano Kodo, while only a couple min from the grocery store, foot bath, and next Oji. Super friendly, hospitable, and next level lodging. Can't...

There are bicycles that you can use to explore the town. There is a washing machine and a dryer. Yukata are provided and you can change into these comfy outfits for dinner. Next morning, we had a great breakfast and we ordered a 700 Yen lunch box for our hike. The host send us off with a local ceremony. It was truly a wonderful experience!
