This was my final hotel stay during a recent solo trip to Japan from England. The hotel is close to the metro station Toyocho in a quieter area of Tokyo. The hotel is very stylish, clean and modern.
I stayed in a standard room, which had amazing views of the Sky Tower. It was on the 12th floor. The room was clean and cosy, with everything I needed for a great sleep, including the comfiest PJs ever! The wifi was fast and there was a deep bath, which was great.
Breakfast was delicious and there was a large variety of items on offer and there was a chef who would make fresh egg dishes. I enjoyed the French Toast especially and there was also fresh juice and coffee available. There is a vending machine and microwave on floor 5, which sold beers and other drinks if you wanted one in your room.
I had dinner one night at Teppanyaki Kiba, one of the hotel's restaurants on the 21st floor. This was a very luxurious treat! The chef was very friendly and talented and cooked a delicious meal for me and the sake was the best I had during my trip. The views from the restaurant were amazing. It was a little on the pricier side but this was my treat meal of my trip. This was a very special place to have a meal and I will never forget it.
The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helped me with any questions I had. They booked me a taxi with ease and were also able to help when I got locked out of my safe by accident. They even helped me with an urgent request after I had checked out of my room, which was so kind of them.
There are a few restaurants and shops around the hotel, which are very useful. There is a supermarket next door, which is really useful for gifts and souvenirs to take home. They also do amazing sushi here to take back to your room and enjoy. The supermarket also has a 100Yen shop, which was great! There is also a Kameda Coffee in the mall opposite the supermarket. I highly recommend this for coffee and snacks (or breakfast if you fancy a change!) I also ate one night at the sushi restaurant near the hotel and at the yakitori restaurant in the mall. These were both ok for a quick bite but I am sure there are a bit nicer places nearby.
Location wise, the area is pretty quiet, which suited me well. I highly recommend getting the bus into Tokyo Bay area and other surrounding areas. Tokyo Bay is much quieter than central Tokyo if you're looking for a piece of calm after being in the buzzing city.
Places I recommend getting a bus to visit are: Unicorn Gundam Statue (this had an amazing tulip festival on when I went to visit) TeamLabs planets (get your tickets in advance though!) Citabria grill and bar - this was a great place for food and drink in the sun -Kasai Rinkai park - this ocean side park is stunning and has a large ferris wheel with great views (if you're not scared of heights, like me!) To the northwest of the hotel is a park called Kiyosumi park, which you can get a bus to. This park is beautiful and has a large pond with tortoises and large fish. It was a very peaceful place
To get into central Tokyo, it is easy on the metro - about a 10 min walk Toyocho Station, which is on the Tozai line. What's more, Haneda airport is only around a 30min drive away. I got a taxi to the airport but there is also a shuttle bus service that the hotel organises (the first one leaves at 7.55am though, which was too late for my early flight). I also saw there was a shuttlebus to Disney, which I imagine would be super useful.
Overall, this hotel was a great base for my stay in Tokyo and I highly recommend. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for such...
Read moreMy friends and I spent a pleasant day at Hotel East 21 Tokyo, opting for a lunch buffet and pool plan, which cost around ¥15,000 per person on a weekend. The hotel is conveniently located in the Koto ward, about a 10-minute walk from Toyocho Station's Exit 1 on the Tozai Line, which makes it easily accessible. While it's not in the immediate vicinity of Tokyo Station or Ginza, it's a short train ride away. Lunch Buffet Experience: The lunch buffet was generally good, with some standout dishes. The tiramisu was a definite highlight and the fresh, sweet fruits were a real treat. However, as a vegetarian who also eats chicken, I found it difficult to navigate the buffet. The lack of clear labeling on many dishes, especially those that might contain beef or pork, made it challenging to know what I could eat. The Caprese salad was a bit of a disappointment; it had very few tomatoes and was missing the pesto I was hoping for. The cheese also didn't taste as good as I had expected. The coffee, a latte from a machine, was unfortunately a bit watery, likely due to the milk quality. Pool and Amenities: The outdoor pool on the fifth floor is truly a magnificent space. Surrounded by greenery, it felt like a little resort in the middle of the city, perfect for a day out with friends and family. It was a great place for kids to have fun, but there were a surprising number of restrictions. We found out that you can't even use a water ball to swim on, let alone play a game of volleyball. This was a bit of a letdown, as it limited the kind of fun we could have. One major amenity I missed was a sauna. After a swim, especially in the summer heat, a sauna is a great way to relax and sweat it out. It would have been a fantastic addition. Also, the pool water was on the warmer side due to the sun, and the lack of a cold-water shower was noticeable. A refreshing rinse with cold water would have been perfect after the warm pool. Overall Impression: Despite some minor issues with the buffet's labeling and the pool's restrictions and amenities, it was a very nice day outing. The atmosphere of the hotel and the sheer beauty of the pool area made it a worthwhile experience. It's a great option for anyone in the area looking for a...
Read moreFantastic hotel. I wish it were a bit closer to the train station, but the important thing is that it was only a ten minute walk away from the Toyocho station. Service was fantastic. The employees are fluent in English and eager to help. I had to change the length of my stay twice, and they were very pleasant about it. Eating at the hotel was a bit expensive but worth it when in a rush. Breakfast was about 3600 JPY, but it was a buffet with some very good items. I did not go to the restaurant at the top. The atmosphere was nice with a fountain out front and nice carpet in the lobby. In the rooms, the atmosphere was a bit dated; the carpet and artwork on the walls felt a bit like an Arizona motel circa 1990s. However, there was no damage nor dirt.||The pool was closed as it was only April, and I guess they only have the pool open during the summer. The view was pretty nice from our room on the 20-somethingth floor. The beds, tv, and bathroom were all pretty standard for a small-ish hotel room. It is Japan, so the toilet of course had a bidet and all the fancy functions. The bathroom mirror had a heated portion that doesn't fog up, which was cool. The light switch for the bathroom was on the outside, which was unfortunate, but not a big deal if you're staying with adults. The shower was a nice standard Japanese bath/shower.||My only complaint is that the beds were quite firm, as the Japanese prefer. I asked for a mattress topper or a second comforter because I prefer very, very soft beds but I guess they don't have those things for guests. :(||There are many restaurants and convenience stores within walking distance, and even...
