Lying is not ok.
When we checked out and checked in again for one more night at the front desk, we first went straight to talk to a receptionist who was apparently at work and had time, but what she did was use a simple hand gesture to let us move to the front of the next receptionist and did not say anything. This single thing is not polite and weird enough, but what happened next was even more mind blowing.
The next receptionist greeted us and it seemed nothing weird for now. But next, he suggested it would be hard for us to simply keep the same room for one more day because the hotel was fully booked that day.
Guess what? We checked the availability on the Hilton app immediately after he said that while standing at the front desk, and there was nothing but all availability for different types of rooms including the type we stayed at. So we knew he was either lying or being unprofessional.
Next, he even made a phone call, and then suggested we can stay in the same room for one more night, and even wanted us to acknowledge his "hard work" on this so-called issue.
We simply took this as a joke, because staying two nights in the same room is such a basic thing every hotel can offer when there definitely is availability. Even if there was an upgrade it is still nothing special because it is very common at a Hilton property to upgrade an elite member's room to a higher level room, not even a suite. If the hotel wanted to save cost, we didn't even need the house keeping so that would save some bucks.
But the price of this hotel was not the most expensive one, and not significantly higher than the nearby inns, so probably the management team's unprofessionalism has something to do with it.
And for the room, it lacks oxygen at all times, no matter AC on or off, as the window cannot be opened. The view was nice and peaceful, and there was a mountain view. All the rooms are spacious at this hotel.
The communication with the manager at the restaurant was weird and not very nice. All the other staff at the restaurant were kind or at...
Read moreStayed at the Doubletree Toyama in late October, 2024, for five nights as part of a month-long vacation in Japan.
The hotel itself couldn't be more conveniently located. It is a five-minute walk from the Shinkansen station (you literally just cross the street and you're there), and near plenty of shopping malls and restaurants. Nextdoor to the Doubletree is a 24-hour Lawson convenience store, a post office, and a coin laundromat.
In terms of amenities, there is a small grab-and-go coffee shop next to the lobby with pastries and sandwiches made in the hotel's kitchen; the restaurant (where the breakfast buffet is served) is on the second floor; the fourth floor has a very small gym and fully equipped Japanese-style public baths with sauna. The rooms are basic, but well furnished. The hotel was almost two years old during the time of our stay, but all of the facilities still felt brand new.
The service––particularly the restaurant staff––was the highlight of our time here. Megumi, the Food and Beverage Manager, always took the time the greet us whenever we would have lunch or dinner, and ask us about our travels for that day. Akari, Ryosuke, and Haruka were also very attentive and professional. The food was delicious of course, but it was the Korare staff that truly made our time in Toyama unforgettable.
Some of the front desk staff on the other hand, were much colder and rather unfriendly. A night-and-day difference compared to the restaurant staff.
However, I will note Maria at the front desk helped me access my room when my key stopped working. I was doing laundry at six in the morning, bringing a suitcase of clothes up and down from our room on the 13th floor and my key stopped working. Maria made us three new keys and even delivered them up to the 13th floor so I didn't have to go down again with...
Read moreI booked a King guest room as a Hilton diamond member. Was upgraded to a premium room a day prior to check in. I read quite a few nice things about this hotel and it lived up to my raised expectations. The service and quality of my experience was comparable to a full Hilton. The only thing that was a “DoubleTree” level was the scale of the building and therefore the marginally smaller scale of the rooms. ||The room itself was nice and clean. Unlike most Hilton properties they did not provide bottled water and instead provided a pitcher with public water stations on each floor as Toyama is known for delicious pipe water. Honestly, for public water yes it tastes good however I recall the water in Arashiyama in Kyoto was good as well and I didn’t find Toyama significantly better. ||The hotel is very convenient to Toyama Station. Walk out the south exit and you can see the hotel already. As the hotel has no executive lounge, diamond members receive 1 free drink at the hotel restaurant which was a pretty nice dinner. Breakfast service was quite good every morning. During my stay elite members were served a special appetizer at breakfast of crab tofu. The hotel has a public bath which featured a hot bath, cold bath, and sauna. Very nice and one of the most interesting features was that the room TVs feature a monitor that lets you know how crowded the bath is. ||I wanted to mention that the nightly price tends to be really reasonable and this hotel is one of Hilton’s most affordable locations in Japan. This is likely due to the location of Toyama however Toyama is a fairly large city with plenty of people and convenience. I was glad to see other foreign travelers willing to journey beyond the usual Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. I can easily see myself visiting again...
