I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Midland Hotel, Nakuru, and I must say that it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Situated in a prime location, this hotel lived up to its reputation as a top-notch accommodation option.

Located in the heart of Nakuru town, Midland Hotel is a nice place to spend a night, or two while visiting places around Nakuru. The hotel is located next to the Nairobi-Eldoret highway and the railway line, which reminisces the old colonial times. Social amenities; supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, cabs … are just across the road.

The rooms are spacious and elegantly furnished, and especially the suites (see images) in the newly constructed wing. The mahogany bed is particularly comfy and the rooms are noise-proof, so you won’t get distracted from outside, even if the hotel is next to a major highway. Telephones and cabled televisions are available in all rooms.

The restaurant offers tasty meals and the waiters are friendly and willing to help. The hotel manager was particularly concerned of our comfort and ensured we were having the best of our visit. Conference facilities are available and the hotel has a nice lawn for relaxation. I am revisiting a few places in Nakuru that I have not been to in awhile and today was Midland Hotel's turn. I have not been here since before the renovation. The place looks good but I miss the old look and feel. Keep in mind that I only visited the restaurant. I wanted pork chops, as it was my favorite offering here in the past. Not on the menu so I settled for the famous grilled chicken with chips and samosas to start with. First disappointment was no samosas, instead I was served cheap sausages. Chicken came and proved disappointing as well. It was fried and very dry. At least the chips were ok. Seems like the renovation impacted the quality of food negatively. If you like sitting in pretty places eating mediocre food stop on by the Midland. (I will say that the service was spot on.)

I was here for work in April. The place is beautiful, great ambience and the conference hall was large and very accommodative with a large screen for projection. The only disturbing thing was that we kept feeling small tremors on one side of the conference hall throughout the week we were there till we wondered whether there's a train station underneath it. Service was great and the manager who was in charge of us was attentive to any complaints. There's a beautiful lounge place near the conference halls and the environment is clean and well-kept lawns. It's prime location within town makes it very convenient for both work and vacation either solo, couple or a group.
