Kiboko Bay is a lovely resort by the lake and perfect for a weekend hangout by the lake. It's the Dunga area of Kisumu. From the CBD you can take a motorcycle taxi (bodaboda). Should cost around 50 to 100Ksh. Always negotiate the fare. The road to Dunga is very dusty and there is currently road construction going on there which doesn't make it any better. Kiboko Bay has a swimming pool right by the lake and they also have luxury speed boats for short trips in the lake. A one hour trip will set you back 100 dollars or 10000Ksh. A fifteen minutes ride is 3500Ksh or 35 dollars. It fits about 15 people and there is a mini bar on the boat. Bring your own drinks though. The food at Kiboko Bay is delicious but pricey. So be prepared to spend anywhere from 10 to 15 dollars for a meal. The staff are friendly and courteous. Could be better though. The best time to go is late afternoon to evening when you can watch the sunset. It's gorgeous. During the rainy season watch out for thunderstorms that show up without notice. Carry...
Read moreI love this place. That’s why when I’m in Kisumu I try to make time to have a meal here despite the treacherous road one has to deal with.
This place is right on the shores of Lake Victoria where you can spot a hippo or two. They are used to curious on lookers. The staff are friendly and are open to chatting about the ups an down of Lake Victoria hyacinth. Informative staff are always a plus.
The food is good and affordable. There are a number of options for where to eat. There’s a dine in option, deck option, poolside and lake view option. I like to dine by the lake.
The food takes a while to appear so you have to kind of charm the staff and not treat them like robots. It works for me anyway.
There’s a kiddie pool and a regular pool.
The accommodation are tents on stilts if that makes sense. I haven’t spent the night there so I can’t say much more than on their outward appearance.
Sunset at this place is the piece de resistance.
Great place to invade with a bunch of friends on a random...
Read moreWe recently had dinner at the deck. The deck has a safari style ambiance overlooking the lake which provides a spectacular view of the lake. The staff were pretty helpful. They gave us a child's high chair when we asked. I ate fish and chips and the fish was well seasoned and the accompanying tartar sauce was very tasty albeit, they forgot to bring it when they brought my order. My date had pepper chicken which he enjoyed seeing as he didn't remember to let me taste it as he usually does. At some point a hippo got out of the lake to eat some grass which was really cool. The downside is the very aggressive mosquitoes but then again if we ate indoors, we would have missed the hippo. I suggest covering up and bringing repellant for eating on the deck...
