I spent new year's hols there and to he honest if i had done what i do ie read reviews before I would not have gone there. It's below disappointing.Matresses are old ama changed rooms...mind you a suite and story is the same...sour back. Our first night we were terrorized by mosquitoes and called the reception. After one hour no one came. Called again someone came brought a doom and insisted he is not leaving it with us. There was no other doom in entire hotel. Waiters are slow and clumsy...not well trained just sourced from the street. Food is pathetic....the Mabati hotel outside has better chefs -finger licking food, water in the bathroom was not draining, room service bad. A waiter brought is beer charged the service but don't bring a glass! Oh and during breakfast they don't put bacon you request the waiter to bring from the kitchen! No shower caps. Grounds and rooms are neglected. When we went to the club my and muy partner were the only patrons. Finally weetabicks had small ants in it and the guy in charge only called a waiter tho change it. Basically new don't care because it's not new and he knew we were not returning so was ignored. They would also pamper a few guests who probably were knoen by management..we noticed..the rest of us sort yourself.as we checked out the cashier told us the machine was not working we pay cash...because the last day had not been billed (read staff trying to make some on the side) In a year or two this once great hotel( Intercontinental before changing name) will be a MUSEUM! To end this the prices were exagggerated so this is fleecing people and delivering nothing...from other reviews it seems they don't care since they wont be changing a thing. The once to enjoy the place are the people travelling for...
Read moreReally nice location (beach front), very friendly staff, nice breakfast and dinner buffets (which by the way are included in the price), a nice outdoor pool for when you do not feel like swimming in salt water, beach accessible bars, or should I say "bar accessible private beach"?), and of course, the Indian Ocean comes as part of the package. Can it get any better? So, why four stars instead of five? Well, as a world traveler, I find that I really enjoy a nice bathroom in my hotel room. Although a really nice hotel, I would love to see an update on the bathrooms. The bathroom was nice but not quite what I expected judging by the nice exterior and the price of the hotel. I felt that the bathroom had room for improvement. Maybe a nice bathtub instead of just a shower would do the job, but, if that is not doable, atleast a new and shiny look, with plenty of towels and supplies. My brother was not impressed with the one towel in the bathroom. First impressions are very important. The staff recovered very well though as every day after our swim, we found more than one clean towel and extra supplies in the bathroom. The beds were extremely comfortable, with clean crisp sheets and nice pillows. We also had a balcony with an amazing view (pictures/video attached). Overall, the hotel was a great experience and the location more than makes up for any small shortcomings you may encounter. I would stay here again. Pay Mombasa, Kenya a visit and stay...
Read moreI had high expectations from the last time I was here two years ago and I was bitterly disappointed. The standards of the rooms are far below average, the waiting staff are so demoralized due to the mismanagement of the entity over the years, the food lacked any spices and was bland, we proffered eating out; you had to wait in line during breakfast as one chef made and served eggs and pancakes, sausages and bacon were limited and served to patrons to manage "wastage". The rooms need URGENT renovation - from the showers, safe, WiFi, fridge, furniture - and support staff, from ICT to kitchen staff (room service) need to meet customer complaints head on instead of circumventing the issues.
Apart from all those shortcomings, the beach and its view are amazing, the staff are pleasant despite the mismanagement, the pool was pleasantly fun and their New Year's fireworks display was amazing. It was also sad to note that their kids corner and menu had been discontinued as this was a serious selling point for people to regularly patronize the resort.
The place needs serious renovations, the food menu needs a total overhaul, the in-house club has great potential but the decor needs a revamp and the DJ sucks, support staff need to be taken to customer training and management urgently need to re-evaluate their strategies. I'll be surprised if this place is open over the 2017...
