Unless you want to see bad behavior rewarded and suffer bc of poor internal systems, do not come here. We arrived at the resort past lunch. Still, we waited more than half an hour for them to get our room ready, but they hadn’t. We decided to go for tea since we were exhausted. Even when we were back from tea, we had to wait for at least ten minutes to finally get our rooms. Bear in mind that we were scheduled to come and we had two small children below 6 years, and a baby with us.
Another day, We reserved a sunbed by the pool at breakfast time and left our things there, since we had lots of children with us. As we went to get our things and returned, we saw that a lady had removed our things and sat there. We told her that we reserved it by virtue of the things we left on it, but she didn’t agree and stubbornly stayed and became abusive. I looked everywhere for the manager. The place is big and none of the staff knew where the manager was or where I could find him or how to contact him without me walking there. It is a basic expectation that staff can contact their manager without customers having to go all the way there.
I talked to whoever I could bc we needed the sunbed for the kids and we were also five adults so we were sharing them, anyway. One just listened and promised to give us an umbrella but didn’t. The other brought for this lady another sunbed, and later brought us one more. We ended up having to squeeze where two sunbeds would have been , there were now four. It was unfortunate that they rewarded bad behaviour and catered to her first. Note that we did not monopolize the sunbeds for ourselves to be taken forcibly. The days before we didn’t manage to book them in advance so they didn’t sit there. If someone else could steal our place so easily, we could have done the same to someone else. It felt like I was in a jungle or an institution without regulations where everyone could do what they wanted without consequence. These people didn’t ask us if they could have our bed. They also didn’t stay there for just a few hours but the entire day. Either get more sun beds or learn to deal with clients disagreements about them. Their "solution" left us still suffering.
During meal times, we would take turns looking after the kids, and the kids decided what they wanted to drink. One of the waiters grumpily told us to order all our drinks at once! When we were literally a group of big people - are we supposed to be structuring our orders so that our drinks don’t burden the waiter? It was very inappropriate, considering that we never complained about the ten minutes it took them to actually give the drinks and them occasionally forgetting a drink altogether. In one instance, I was drinking my tea and there was still a quarter of it left. The waitress came and took it away without even asking. Mind you, I was at the table, but I was distracted looking somewhere else.
In addition, we noticed that the bedsheets were not changed in the three days we were there. One of us saw the same mark on it. Moreover, the all inclusive policy had so many limits that were not conveyed - no drinks beyond 11 pm, and they would refuse to serve food if they thought it was "close to meal time". Depending on their judgement. That too, they would restrict where you could eat it. We asked for them to bring the food by the pool but they refused. We had to go to the restaurant with the kids. The room had no fridge.
When we told the manager, he just looked at us and said nothing. Please do not go there, especially if you have kids or even if you don’t. It’s not worth it. It’s not cheap, but there are sooo many restrictions and very demotivated staff. A few of the waiting staff were good, but they were vastly...
Read moreIt started quite bad from the very start: it was simply unjustifiably expensive, the rate for 2 rooms for 2 adults and 2 children for 3 nights was around 2000 USD with breakfast included and it was not a good value for these money; as it was a festive period the dinners which they normally charge 2000 KES (around 20 usd) per person were charged 3500 KES (35 USD) and 4000 (KES) (40 USD), the remote location does not easily allow to dine out, you’d need to arrange a taxi and know where you’d be going. In general the food was overpriced and was not worth the quality. the quality of the food was average, whilst the variety at the breakfast seemed OK, the food was greasy and heavy, the fruit selection was OK whilst there were almost no fresh vegetables. The beef bacon served at the breakfast was chewy and uneatable. The quality of the food at the “festive dinners” was OK, but did not match the quality you would expect for a festive dinner: most of the meat and fish were consistently overcooked and dry, it seemed the chefs were lacking a basic “feel” for what they were cooking which resulted in a waste of good products. on arrival both rooms had to be re-cleaned per our request as there were chunks of dust in the corners and layers of it on some surfaces; the curtains in one room had to be replaced as they were heavily stained, a garbage bin in one room had to be replaced as well as it was deformed and looked like it was used in a public toilet rather than a luxury resort; the towels and bedsheets had visible stains; the living blocks have not received a proper maintenance for quite some time: the tiles in both bathrooms were cracked, the sinks and toilets were chipped, the faucets and shower glass were covered with thick layers of calcination, the shower door in one of the rooms was leaking water to the floor; again overall condition did not meet any possible standards; a refrigerator was missing in one of the cabinets whilst in the 2nd room it was present but did not work; the stuff, whilst friendly and eager to help seemed to be very slow, incompetent/ poorly trained: any telephone requests to the reception had to be followed up and repeated even the simple ones such as requests to bring a few bottles of water; actually it was applicable to most of the requests. a food ordered at one of the a-la-carte cafes (Blue lagoon) on the day of arrival did not arrive after an hour of waiting, upon checking it seemed that a waitress was preparing the food herself; the drinks arrived 30 minutes after a reminder and the quality was abysmal with rotten mint leaves and lime the place was very crowded during the breakfast and dinners due to the festive period (Christmas), the place was clearly making an impression of a mass factory lacking an individual touch; the general impression was that the place is mismanaged and does not receive proper care and is squeezed as a cash cow whilst there is a consistent flow of local customers (which constituted 99% of guests during our stay). The best efforts of some of the employees seem to end in vain without support of the owners...
Read moreWow. This hotel exceeded my expetations in every way possible.
Firstly, we arrived to the hotel very late at night, around 1 am. They kept the kitchen open for us & made sure to serve is food & drink. No hotel I have ever stayed in across the world has ever done this. Usually when you arrive you are sent to your room & told that breakfast will be served in the morning.
When we arrived it was dark & raining, but the hotel still looked beautiful. We literally said wow, as we got past the gate & made it to the reception. We needed a twin room, and I forgot to mention in advance and they made the accomodation, & split our room as soon as i asked. By the time we finished eating our room had been sorted & our bags were taken to the room.
The staff are EXTREMLEY friendly & helpful. They treated us like family. They made us feel so welcome. They stopped to have conversations with us. Tell us about kenya, give us reccomendations etc.
The food was SOOOOOO good. some of the best I had during our entire stay in Kenya. We got full board.Compared to some of the other hotels we were looking for this place was so reasonably priced that my expectations were low but i think its probably one of the best hotels in Mombassa.
They also have entertainment. Thankfully it is not too loud. When it gets very late at night they move it to a location away from the bedrooms.
There is some lovely wildlife arount the hotel, the monkey's linger around but are not aggressive as they were in some places i stayed. They did not attempt to enter our bedroom, they did not try to steal food as we were eating etc. This is often overlooked but it was so bad in another hotel we stayed in & we noticed it was because the staff were not doing anything to stop them. But the staff here were attentive & ensured that the monkeys didnt bother guests. I didnt find myself in daily standoffs with monkeys, even in my room, like i did in another hotel.
My only regret is that I didnt stay longer. We wanted to see other parts of Kenya so we went to Diani & stayed at a more expensive hotel, that wasnt prideinn. It was incomparable to this place. We fell in love with the Prideinn Brand so we ended up staying at 2 other prideinn's during our stay elsewhere in the country. With Prideinn you can guarantee friendly service, amazing ameneties & location & good food.
If you are unsure about whether to book this place please dont second guess & book right now. You will not regret it. The good service & atmosphere rub's off on the guests too. Sometimes when you stay in a hotel and the vibe is off, it makes the guests not interact with eachother but that was not the case here. I met some amazing people here that i have kept in touch with.
Thank you to every single one of the staff members, from the people in reception, to the porters, to the chefs, to the cleaning staff. You are all doing an amazing job. I hope to meet you all again if i ever am...
