tl;dr –||||The property is new. The design is cheap. Imagine Holiday Inn in the middle of Idaho – there you go. Air conditioning is impossible to use as every 3 minutes you get a big loud BZZZZZZZ!!!! from the unit (as guests suggested in other reviews, it looks like an installation problem all over the hotel). Not romantic, not cozy, but if you're a group of Finnish bikers on the way from Tallinn to Vilnius, then it's Okay for a sleepover – provided the price is right.||||LOCATION||||2-3 min walk to the beach, 40-50 min walk to the centre of Jurmala. There's a fruit & veggie market around the corner, a wine shop next door, and 'Eko Products' (didn't visit) in the same block. There's also a street cafe with pretty horrible Russkoe Radio music, and a restaurant that has seen better times. Very convenient for coming/going to/from Jurmala, you can also walk your kids to the Aquapark (15 min or so).||||PARKING||||In the courtyard: a mix of Russian Cayennes, Finnish Yamahas, Lithuanian Audis, and in Belarusyan Skodas. Beware being locked out due to people double parking in high season.||||WIFI||||No password, good signal throughout.||||HOSPITALITY||||Zero points. No explanation, no description about possible breakfast options, the only thing mentioned and discussed was the payment. Similar to buying a sack of oranges in a supermarket. Dear management: there are whole universities that run year-long courses on hospitality, please look these up =).||||ROOMS||||We paid €170 for a 2-bedroom apartment with a terrace. The small terrace faced the main street and courtyard, from there you can climb the stairs to the roof. The roof has no table, no chairs, and with kids or dogs it's pretty much useless as you cannot run up and down the staircase for a glass of water or a toy.||||SLEEP||||A/C makes a loud buzzing sound every few minutes, other reviews mention the same throughout the hotel. I guess it's a problem with the installation of the units. Impossible to sleep with this buzzer! And when you open windows, be ready to hear all sorts of noise from the main street as well as from the other rooms. Also, the walls are fairly thin, I listened to 40 minutes of Blink 182 before managing to fall asleep – someone on the floor was having a party, I suppose.||||SUMMARY||||For the same price, you can get a top class apartment in Berlin, in Riga or in Vilnius. Of course if you must be in Jurmala in high season, then your choice is limited. I would throw my lot with AirBnB options, though, rather than re-visit this place, as trying to get some sleep without A/C is a challenge and having no breakfast...
Read moreThese apartments are practically brand new and located in the same building as Sonia apartments, please bear that in mind when reading the reviews. Located 5 mins from the beach and the train station with quite a few restaurants nearby, however please bear in mind the nearest big supermarket is located 15mins walk away. However, there is a small market located across the road which sells fruit and veg and next to it a wine shop and organic shop which sell some groceries. There's also another small grocery shop located close to the train station. I would also mention that the apartments are in Bulduri, which is a neighbourhood of the city of Jurmala. This means the attractions such as the concert hall are located a good half an hour walk away, however it is a pleasant walk in a very pretty neighbourhood. You can also take a taxi there. Prices in restaurants vary, there is a pleasant cafe and restaurant right opposite the hotel with tasty meals at low prices. The apartment itself was spacious, with three bedrooms, kitchen and dining area and one bathroom. There is a balcony however it could only accommodate couple of people. The kitchen had a fridge freezer, hob with oven, cutlery, glasses and utensils. Please bear in mind there is no dishwasher. Bathroom had a shower only but it did have a washing machine. TV had local channels only but there is wifi. Building has a lift and the reception has lots of leaflets...
Read moreI’m not a type of a person who is writing comments and complaining, but the situation is extra-ordinary and I want to aware future visitors.
Apartment itself is fine and corresponds shown photos. But the cleanliness and service absolutely horrible and disappointing.
Extremely dirty. Dirty floor, horrible smell in a bathroom and as a cherry on top we found hairs in a bed (not a single hair, but a bunch of them…)
Extremely unpleasant people on reception. On a day of our checkin (july 9) was a nice lady, but further we met tons of impoliteness and rudeness
Very uncomfortable bed, woke up with a back pain. Railway tracks are 100 meters from the apartments, also complicates good quality sleep which you expect on a vacation.
On check out we asked about possibility to leave our luggage for a few hours on reception - but were refused. Then we asked about possibility to extend our stay for a few hours (as a paid service of course which is declared (!) in their price list) but were refused again without any clear reason for this.
No any options/ alternatives were proposed. No any intention to provide help, only rude conversation and disregard attitude to visitors.
I highly recommend to stay far away from Katrin apartments and choose other...
