Very lovely hotel right in the city centre, close to everything there is to see in Jelgava.
Advertised as air coniditioned but the air con was not working in both rooms.
We travelled as a group and booked two rooms, air con was only working in fan mode in both rooms.
This is unacceptable in 30C heat wave, we barely slept. No mention of this from staff or the hotel. Shouldn't advertise that you have air con if it is not working.
On top of that, we left the silly fan on, left for the day and the staff had come in our room, turned it off and took the 2nd key with them!
Our friends had 4 windows in their room but we had only one and it was very tiny. We were roasting all day and night, very disappointing and unpleasant.
Due to this I would not stay here again and had I known, we would have stayed elsewhere in the first place.
No other complaints but the heat just ruined our stay here. I suspect if you travel in winter, you'll be nice & cosy.
Vegetetarians should be careful at breakfast, both mornings the there were meat pancakes with strawberries on top when they should have been cream as stated in the tag next to them. I think they mixed them up as Latvians do not tend to put...
Read moreJelgava... well, unless on business, the likeliness of ending up here is thin. The town is not really as historical as for example Riga. Straight an wide streets, pretty parks and churches, and the river. Hotel Jelgava is right where the main street crosses the river, and if you happen to be on the noisier side, the views are nice, even in a damp and grey November. The hotel looks like somewhere in the esrly 19th century, but renovated quite recently, and really impossible to guess the age of it. The entrance lobby with the reception looks very welcoming, and the check-in goes swiftly - and yes, they speak very good English. My room was a single on the third floor, small but big enough. Cozy, perfect bed a small desk where I just about got space for the laptop. No minibar, but a small fridge, small and functional bath room. So, all in all, no frills but a very good two night den for overnight. The breakfast is a continental with some Latvian twist, very nice. So, would I recommend? Well, if you for some reason end up in Jelgava, yes definitely, but having the choice, I might...
Read moreWe have stayed at this hotel for the second time. This visit was less lucky than before.
We have stayed at the superior suite and it is important to note that for the money that you pay, you get a decent service. This time, unfortunately, there was no brush or hygienic shower in the toilet and the soap dispenser was empty. In particular, the room and the bath were clean.
A lot of discomfort was caused by the not working ventilation system in the bathroom. After taking a shower, breathing was hardened by this matter.
Worth mentioning that this time there were renovations inside the hotel until eight PM and the soundproofing there is kind of poor.
If you are not an early bird, we recommend to not take a breakfast in this hotel. By 9 o'clock you will have stale food, wet cereals, dry bread, tea mugs had to be asked from the staff.
When checking out at the reception, we were asked to pay for complementary water, which was the height of...
