Memoire Hornbill Hotel — Hotel in Borneo

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for two nights as it was very cheap for a 3 star hotel. We left for a hostel near the waterfront and came back after one night. It is just excellent with amazingly comfortable beds.||Forget a taxi - there is a new mall called Aeon around the corner which operates a FREE shuttle bus to the waterfront every half an hour and back. Used it every single day!||Not only that, the food in the mall is better than the raved and overhyped ‘food court’ outside which was full of flies on the food and locals gorping at us, wondering why we were there.||Excellent shower even if the toilet set up in the room is slightly strange! We had both an urban room with no windows, which actually did have two small windows, and a room with a window which featured an egg chair to sit in.||The only let downs are the showers where water will go absolutely everywhere into the toilet and the staff on the desk aren’t professional. We arrived a few hours early and they wouldn’t even consider letting us check in early or to see if the room was ready - we didn’t give them our name or booking at all! No helpful information other than we should get a taxi to wherever and a lot of laughing joking and drinking things behind the desk.||However, I would easily...

Good location as it's next to Aeon Mall and together with a 24 hours food court.||Pity that this hotel is not well maintained.||Cons:||- Rooms are dirty and not properly cleaned. Suspect they never change the mattress and pillow covers frequently. Felt like someone slept on it before.||- Toilets were dirty and the floor not well constructed. Water from shower will flow all over the toilet and the whole toilet floor will be soaked wet.||- TV channels.. This was a disappointment, only 3 local channels??||- Beware of rooms facing inner part of building. It's super noisy. Noticed that they installed an exhaust fan to suck out the hot air from all the air cond compressor units. They switched it on from night till morning. Trust me.. it's super noisy...||- Hotel floor walkway carpets were dirty and it will get worst soon..||Pros:||- Staff were friendly and helpful. I can accept an old hotel, but I cannot tolerate a lack of cleanliness.

There were gecko droppings on the bathroom floor, and the floor felt sticky when stepped on. Dust covered the corners of the room and the chandelier. The bed sheets and pillows looked yellowed, and within 30 minutes of lying down, I started feeling itchy all over. Even after taking a shower and going back to bed, the itchiness persisted—clearly, the bed was full of dust mites.

At night, the diners downstairs were noisy until 2 AM, and the traffic from the road was loud. In the morning, loud knocking sounds from upstairs started at 8 AM and continued non-stop until checkout.
