First impressions during my initial arrival: Old looking hotel with a unique design similar to those old days. Check in was pretty good, staffs were very courteous and although everything went well .. the walk to the room was pretty far, and had to climb one level which might not be an issue if you had someone carry your luggage (in my case; there was a very kind bellboy whom I tipped him for his excellent service). First night - Premier Garden King Room Excellent room and comfort. First night’s dinner was amazing - compliments to Chef Irene for the delicious triple Wagyu burger. Everything was perfect until the “Queen Ants” started appearing in my room the following night, over the beds, ceilings. It was a freaking nightmare and that’s when everything started getting from bad to worst. Called the Reception, they said they will upgrade my room to the Premier Pool View Double Beds. At that point I just wanted to get out from my room. Packed and moved to the new room, oh dear… the air in the room stink beyond imagination. Had to open the sliding doors and front door to vent the air. Getting the smell out of the room was easy but it came with another problem - mosquitoes!! Plenty on hotel grounds and in the rooms whenever the room door opens. Surrounding grounds had plenty of stagnant water which is the reason mosquitoes start breeding. New Room felt more like a downgrade rather than an upgrade. The walls was mouldy and the bed was sunken, the sofa had stains. The only upgrade in the room was the water provided, and the pool view that was blocked by trees and other structures. Accessibility to the pool grounds were much easier. That’s it! At that time I was very unhappy. I had options of course to move to another hotel which was Pullman in the city. But the whole point of my vacation was to get away from the city. Having lived in a very metropolitan city, the location of this hotel was ideal. So I decided to just ignore it, gotten housekeeping to spray some anti-mould on the affected areas to kill the fungus and bacteria. I also sprayed antibacterial and antiseptic liquids on the areas too to be on the safe side. The the toilet too had a disgusting stench after each shower, I’m guessing it’s the hot water that made the drains that were mouldy stinky. It was a very unpleasant stay. 3rd night I ordered in-room dining and was served undercooked chicken wings and beef satay that was not delicious at all, worst of all it was an expensive appetiser only dinner. It ruined my appetite and I made a complaint to the restaurant and reception. Although they did not charge me for the in room dining. I felt that the hotel’s food was not great overall including the breakfast which was very sub-par for a 5 ⭐️ hotel. The food is definitely NOT 5 ⭐️ at all (except for the first night’s in room dining). Would I return? DEFINITELY NO!! See you again in 10 years time from now and that’s a maybe! Marriott Miri has always been an iconic hotel here in this oil town. It has surely shown its age - especially at the facade. The rooms were previously refurbished but maintenance should be next put in place. The pipes were leaking both bidet and and sink - despite the complains, nothing has been done. We had a wet-floored sink area all throughout our stay. The air conditioner in the room was pretty moody as well, dancing to the tune of hot and cold by Katy Perry all night long. The television was no different. For a Marriott standard, they are way far off. But the service crew were their only saving grace. The bellboys were warm in welcoming guests and the cleaners were very thoughtful to greet too. The restaurant staff however, will need a refresher course in service. The coffee machine during breakfast buffet was cranky and old - working when it feels like it. All in all, the stay was not the most pleasant but the warmth of some of the service crew helped to pacify it. Tip: the Lush Bar has awesome Happy Hours! If you are a wine enthusiast like me, they have a free flow wine buffet for RM80++ with a complimentary cheese platter - absolutely worth it!

Growing up, my parents would take us to Marriott annually with the big family, which is probably 2 decades ago for number of years. Always a joy to be here, so coming back here after almost a decade haven't been here, it is a memory lane for me. Despite the hotel has aged, it is maintained quite well, ofcourse there are areas could be maintained as well such as the football field and tennis court, but understandable due to the low rate of usage of those facilities. For the more used facilities such as swimming pool, restaurant and lobby, it is kept at a great standard since I last visited. I also appreciate the renovated rooms, feel up to date and comfortable while having still the same stunning view outside. The only slight let down was the A/C in my room running at least 25/26c despite it states 18c, so it was warm until it hit dawn time where the cold outdoor helps cooling down the room as well. Overall, if you look to spend time in the hotel most of the time, this have to be top of your list to stay. Used to be my parents bringing me here, now I'm back here as a parent bringing my own child, a timeless hotel indeed.

I checked into the above hotel and suffered 2 hours of appalling customer service and general standards. Given that this property is marketed as a 5 start resort, I would advise that the following areas require urgent attention from your teams:

Housekeeping standards / checklists Escalation flow chart for staff to effectively manage customer complaints Training on menu / bar items Room service - delivery time targets Room service -

I was allocated room 1419. This room had an overwhelming smell of damp upon entering the room and upon feeling the bed, it was indeed damp. Paper in the room (eg room service menu) was limp and damp. There was mould on the walls and wooden decor (see attached photos). The wallpaper was peeling from the walls due to the damp.

The sofa and futon were also filthy dirty with stains and mould. In addition...The amenities kit had not been refilled. There was only one bath robe. It was as if housekeeping had forgotten this room for a few weeks then we had checked in.

I called to change rooms at 20:15. I was waiting for 20 minutes for the staff member to come to the room and show me to the new one. I eventually called and was told that no body was in fact on their way to me as they couldn't get an answer from housekeeping to check a suitable room!!! I said I would check the room myself so within another 10 minutes someone arrived to help me with my bags. He did not come with any keys for me though, so I now needed to wait in my room. By the time I got into my room (with no key) it was 20:39.

I proceeded to try and order room service (as the minibar is left EMPTY and I had to wait in for my key!). I ordered a gin and tonic and was told the hotel did not serve tonic. I asked the lady on the phone to double check this with the bar staff and was put on hold for 5 minutes. She then said the order was placed. I then tried to add food to my order but was informed the item I had tried to order was off an old menu (this is the only menu that was in my room) In Total I waited over an hour for my room service to arrive and it was poorly presented, without adequate cutlery and with...

My stayed was from 30 Oct to 5 Nov (7D6N) and I've CHANGED total 2 times room! I would rather book different hotel if I knew I will be staying such rooms. I paid for ocean room (its not the most expensive but its in middle range) and; Bed was shrink and too soft, I moved an inch and the person sleeping beside totally can feel it and can feeel the shakeness. Front desk told me its all the same for ocean room but the other room that I've changed its still slightly better as they did put a topper hence much firmer (feel got cheated 1st room). ITS LIKE SUPER OLD MATTRESS. Air-conditioner is crazy cold! The technician said its spoilt so cannot control which they ordered the spare part from HQ (KL) and hasnt deliver yet. So, this is the first reason I changed room and guess what, the next room is only slightly warmer (but no choice right?) Balcony door is unable to open FULL and I made complaint and guess what, its the same things - the spare part has waited for a more than a week and has yet to deliver (this applied to all rooms) Second room the bedsheet has the mold smell very strong and but luckily after I made complaint, they immediately changed the sheet which kudos for the housekeeping team. First room, the drainage is so bad and the water on the floor wont dried up but the second room dried up pretty fast. The toiletbowl flush is weak for all rooms. The second room that I get, the shampoo all is watery like mix with water. Don't la so stingy on this though I asked for a room change. Bathrobe has hole. Light in the balcony for first room didnt replace until I made complaint. It was sooo dark out there and don't you all check first before guest checkin? I asked for ocean room of course I wanna stay outside but yea, no light cant see thing at all. Second room digital lock battery is low. AGAIN have to call technician to change it.

A few friends of mine actually reco me to stay here but I guessed its the wrong decision that I've made. Won't choose this place anymore if I ever come back to Miri. Its...
