I stayed for two nights in a three bed dormitory for 44RM. In my opinion good value for your money. I loved this cosy place.||1. Room:|The room is very basic, just beds and one plug socket, but very clean. No towels provided, but bedsheets, blankett and pillow. I needed to wear a sweater at night, because it got very cold. The matress is a little bit old and worn, but not wet or smelly (which is the most important thing for me). Thin walls. The bathroom is outside the building and slanting, there is nothing to put your things on. Of course there is just cold water.|But again, for that money, there is nothing to complain about.||2. Staff:|The owner family is living here, so you have children around. The woman, who runs this place is so amazing and friendly. She did everything for my comfortability, prepared me delicious and cheap meals (e. g. fried egg 1RM, fried vege noodle 3RM) and helped me with information for buses. She even stored my luggage for free, when I stayed overnight in the park. Sutera Lodges in the park would charge 12RM per bag.|And I felt in love with their little cute puppy.||3. Location:|Just awesome! The wooden house in the forest/jungle, everything is green and so many beautiful flowers. Sunrise and sunset is incredible from the balcony. As the house is at the mainroad, of course you will hear the cars driving by. But at night it is mostly quite. Just 3 Minutes walking to the Kinabalu Parkentrance.|Also the guesthouse is close to the busstation, where you can get big buses to Sandakan or Kota Kinabalu (15RM - but no fix schedule!).||Fazit: I can highly recommend this place for you, if you are not afraid of basic accomodation or animals. I...
Read moreGreat location just 5 minutes from Kinabalu Park, but that's the only positive. It was sold on booking, com as having A/C and WiFi. It has never had A/C and there is no WiFi. Maps currently says there is a restaurant there: there is certainly no restaurant there. There is also no drinking water. Every part of the place is literally filthy, and it feels like the place is about to fall down. The cardboard of which the ceilings are made is falling apart. The floor is sinking in places. TOILET: The toilet in my room was very hard to flush, but when you succeeded you were rewarded with the contents of the toilet leaking across the floor because the toilet was cracked. Then it overflowed into the bedroom itself. There is mould growing on the ceilings and walls. The toilet had not been cleaned. The toilet seat had a chunk missing. The shower provided only a little dribble of water from the nozzle. The towel provided was smelly, and was not made of towelling and felt like dragging a damp tee-shirt across your body when you tried to dry yourself. BED: Only a lower sheet is provided for the bed, plus a light quilt. Whether the sheet had been washed I am unsure, but the quilt certainly not: my bed smelled strongly of human. There are other places nearby which are reportedly much less...
Read moreIt's about five minutes walking from the Kinabalu park headquarter to the guest house. The room is simple, with basic facility. The view to the valley from the public balcony is great. Two girls manage the guesthouse now, who are very nice, kind, and helpful. There are still some shortcomings: the water heater doesn't work in my room, so I have to use the public bathroom; sometimes the socket in the room has no power, so you have to charge the mobile in reception. Anyway, the room is worth the price. It's good for long-term staying. As for life convenience, there are several restaurant nearby. One is at east, 89 station, for about 10 minutes walking; there is also a small shop besides. The other is at the west, container box restaurant, also about 10 minutes walking. At the ground floor of the headquarter, there are some local people providing local food for the climbers, and there is also a small shop at the same place. But they all finish very early at about 8:30am, after the climbers leave. Anyway, from what I have experienced, the mountain resthouse is not as bad as the former comments mentioned. If u want to hike in the park or climb the mountain, this is a good budget...
