The Dusun is a resort about an hour from Kuala Lumpur and its airports, but feels like a world away. Book Direct For Best Rates. Jungle retreat an hour south of KL and Airports. View Activities. View Facilities. Amenities: Parking Available, Housekeeping, Private Barbecues, Pools Available.
Life on the Dusun may be surprising to some, but it is designed for those who enjoy fresh air, lush greenery, jungle views, lingering meals with loved ones, peaceful strolls and the wonderfully uncoordinated orchestra of the birds, crickets and frogs.
Kantan House: This house is split into two small buildings with a cozy deck in between that is shaded by an avocado tree. A towering Kantan reaches up to the living room, lining your view of the rainforest. The entire house faces a hill of jungle. From behind this hill, the sun rises and sometimes the moon too.
Lanai House; a magnificent view of the jungle and sounds of the nearby river. You enter a large gated space with a water feature along the entire front. That is your living room, with an attached kitchen, bar and bathroom. It is minimally furnished to preserve the feeling of space, with designer bean bags and a Japanese style dining table. The bedroom is on a bank above, joined by a covered stairway.
A Malay-style house on stilts, with verandahs on two sides. The large verandah on Berembun House has a lounge chair plus a small barbecue stove for private dining. It looks out onto the Berembun Forest Reserve. Children are not allowed in this house.
Perlin House: Just 10 meters from the lower pool, with attached baby pool, is Perling House, a double unit with 2 self-contained apartments joined by the outdoor deck. A traditional Malay design with modern touches, the house is named after a bird (the Asian Glossy Starling) that comes in flocks to eat the berries of our palm trees. The houses look out on the jungle and the roar of the river can be heard from them.
Tembusu House: The original Dusun house, it is an open concept house so the bedroom enjoys the view of trees and the distant Mantin hills. The bedroom and barbecue deck are on stilts while the kitchen and bathroom are on the ground. It is named after the mature Tembusu tree which shades it throughout the day and fills it with scent during the flowering season.
Emas House, or golden in Malay, is a traditional Malay house which uses recycled hardwood extensively and incorporates many unique pieces from Helen’s scouring of junk yards. The house is shaded by trees most of the day and its carved panels and shutter windows are designed for coolness. The wood has a golden hue that is lit by the setting sun. Emas House has a serene view over miles of rolling hills towards the Straits of Malacca. The house is set at the end of a gently sloping path of steps and is very private. It also sits in front of the Deer Park.
Tapir House is named after the large Tapir seen behind it one moon-lit night in 2018. A modern house of wood and white with black accents, it is the most modern house on the Dusun. It has a bedroom and a loft with glass windows at the top for viewing of stars and allow light to wash...
Read moreDisappointing stay The house that we were in ran out of water at around 7.30 pm during the second night. No water in the bathroom, kitchen. Couldn’t even flush after using the toilet. We were told on the first day that reception closes at night so if there’s anything we can contact their number after 5pm. So we texted the dusun at 8.30pm since the water was not returning at this point and called them at 9pm again to get an update since it’s getting late. And we had a bbq dinner before realising there’s no water. So we really wanted to shower before going to bed. Was told that the water supply might not resume for the night and we should use the staff toilet. We asked for another update in an hour’s time to see if the water supply will come back. Was told to use the staff toilet again so we went there. Walked to the staff toilet late at night only to find out that there was no water at the staff toilet as well. Texted them and there was no reply thereafter. There was no water to even wash our faces or hands. And we had to use drinking water to brush our teeth. Couldn’t even use the toilet for the night as there was no water to flush. Water for the shower did not resume the next morning, and we were only given 1 pail of water to shower, 2 hours before we check out, when we told them repeatedly that we have two adults. We were offered 30% discount for the second night but for the trouble we went through, and the lackadaisical attitude from the Dusun - we were definitely not pleased with how the situation was handled. 7 plus hours into the second day of our stay we were affected by the water cut. And we had no water for the 17 hours during our second day of stay. No solutions other than a staff toilet which also ran out of water and a pathetic pail of water for two adults who didn’t get to shower, or even wash their faces for the night. When we spoke to the reception in the morning, their response was "oh there’s still no water yea"? Sounded like they didn’t really care if their guests were having a hard time because of the water cut and they didn’t even know what was happening to us that night and in the morning. The whole experience gives us the impression that the dusun lacks proper staff support. And when issues arise, solutions given are simply inadequate, lacking and untimely. Makes us wonder how they are gonna react in time if there’s a security issue at night. We were returning guests, but we will not be coming...
Read moreThe Dusun is a perfect getaway to those who are looking for an escape from city, private and quiet vacation and those who want to explore nature. The view was rather calming and breathtaking not to mention the fresh air and the sound of birds chirping nearby. It is surrounded by mountain and forest, and it was a perfect setting to enjoy sunrise from here. It was quite chill a night which you do not need any air conditioner and surprisingly there is no mosquitos at all.
I visit The Dusun with my family, and we stayed in the Tapir House. The Villa was quite spacious and suitable for 4-5 Adults max. The villa has open concept glass house where the dining hall was open air and has a scenic mountain view. We enjoyed our time being in the Tapir House immersing ourselves in the built-in bathtub while inhaling the fresh scent of the forest. Not to mention the Infinity Pool with a mesmeric mountain view. Once you dive into the water. the feeling was indescribable and next thing you know you are already in a mental state peace of mind.
The area is quite big surrounded with a few orchards and there was a lake, river nearby and jungle trekking etc if you would like to explore more. The internet connection was good, there are water heater provided as well. So don’t bother if you ever get bored. There are a lot of activities nearby for you to explore.
The house was equipped with basic utensils for you to cook your own meal as there is no shop nearby. But they also have their own café that you can order your meal in advance. The meal from the café was really good, the portion is enough for two people if you are not a big eater, and the presentation was nice too. I reads all the review before coming and most mentioned the meal was quite pricey, but I think it was decent and affordable. My mother even asked for a recipe from the cooker because I really like their “Sambal Kacang” and they even share the recipe with my mother. How generous!
The staff there are so friendly and helpful, the service provided was good and I have no complaint at all. We enjoyed our trip so much being in The Dusun because we feel like at home. I was having a really great time together with my family and im sure I will return back and visit this place again in the future.
Goodjob to the management and the team as your staff deliver the best...
