For my birthday, knowing that I'm very much a nature lover, miss gf arranged for a 3 day, 2 night trip to Taman Negara. After scouring the internet, she ultimately chose to take the activity package from Xcape Resort.
We arrived at Xcape resort around noon on Friday. Perhaps due to it being a weekday, the parking spots in front of the resort were practically empty. The check in process was rather smooth. However, while the agent that we booked the trip through mentioned that the lunch on the first day was included, the resort said it wasn't. Ultimately, they were kind enough to allow us to have lunch after we showed them our conversation with the agent.
The room we got was spacious, clean and generally comfortable. Basic toiletries were provided and replaced daily. However, the soundproofing of the room was non-existent. We could clearly hear people talking and laughing in the next room, the sound of them taking a bath next door, as well as the chattering from the corridor.
There was an activity room that we could access anytime. In the room, there were:
Board games A pool table with just 1 cue stick A non-functioning video game console (or at least we couldn't figure out how to get it to work) A Ping Pong table A carrom board where everything was sticky As well as a karaoke set with a very limited selection of songs.
This was a place that we could spend some of our free time in between activities.
During our stay, the food quantity was sufficient, and the taste was acceptable. There were generally one or two options for proteins and vegetables, with fruits or cakes for dessert. There was also a water dispenser for us to refill our bottles with.
It was quite unfortunate that during our visit, one of the attractions offered in the package, the canopy walk, was closed due to damage from a storm that had broken some of the cables holding up the bridges. It was one of the activity I was eagerly looking forward to, but I ended up missing it. While there was mention of compensation, no actions were ultimately taken, which was quite disheartening.
Overall, the experience staying here was mixed. Perhaps paying attention to various areas that need improvement would be the right direction...
Read moreMy friend and I stayed in a dormitory and it is away from the main area. The room we got was the corner and the bed was extremely dirty. There were alot of small mosquitoes on the bed. There were also lizards and cockroaches in the room so we request for a change. But the room they gave us was worst, the window was spoilt so more insects can enter and aircon will then go out of the room. But since we are only staying for one night, we decide to just let it go and stick to the first room. It was the most uncomfortable stay I’ve had. If you are coming, please just pay more and stay in a better room and not the dorm. For the tours, we went to the night safari tour for 45 rm. Did not see anything at all. A waste of money but was a good ride because we were on the top of the car. The next morning, we were suppose to go on a jungle trekking tour but after waiting for an hour, the guide totally forgot about us. So we went by ourself and luckily the hotel refunded us the money. Jungle trekking is definitely doable by yourself and it is so much cheaper! Just 2 rm back and forth by boat to the place. So, GO BY YOURSELF! Anyone thinking of going to the canopy walk, it is close due to monsoon...
Read moreThis place is quite good and has a good price-value quality. Some people have complained about the state of this resort, but honestly it's okay. Some mentioned the resort was outdated and not well kept but I did not have that impression. True, it's not the hilton, but it's a comfortable place to rest and clean up if you are there to explore the national park at daytime. The rooms are plain and clean. There is no tv, but there is wifi. AC works just fine. The bathroom is simple, but again clean. There weren't any bugs, which I feel I should mention considering you are in the vicinity of the national park (10 min walk and across the river). They clean your room daily and refresh towels and toilet amneties. The food is okay. They offer a breakfast buffet and dinner. However the floating restaurants might be a better place to have dinner as they serve better food in my opinion. Staff are friendly and try to do their best to make your stay enjoyable. All in all, this place certainly is worth considering when you plan your trip to visit the...
