We had arrived to Pangkor early in the morning at 9am+, way before the check-in time at 2pm. The guesthouse was less than 5mins walk from SPK Jetty. Passing by some coffeeshops where we see lots of people having their cuppa of hot White coffee with toasted bread & soft boiled eggs. We saw them selling chinese food like curry noodle,dry/soup noodles and packets of nasi lemak. Upon reaching the guesthouse, liked how the place is decorated up, it gives a relaxing atmosphere and rustic feel. Footwears were left either outside at the entrance gate or the shoe rack by the staircase. At the 1st floor, there is the comfortable sitting area with a hammock, wooden table & chairs. There is also a swinging chair by the side below the staircase.Further in is reception area where we check-in. At the reception area, is also where we can have drinks like coffee/tea. Just behind,is a pantry. They have a beautiful flask to boil hot water. Anyway, we went up to the 2nd floor to change to our beach attire as the shared bathrooms are there. There is also a nice chill out corner, more wooden table & chairs with pillows. Leaving our bags behind while we explored the island 1st. We had rented a motorcycle from them,30RM for the day. The friendly receptionist and owner had gave us a good introduction on the to go places like the Anchovy factory, the beaches, the eating places, the seafood street, the hornbill birds feeding time & even let us know petrol would only cost around 2RM to top up the tank. The receptionist even orientated us on the motorcycle. We came back hours later to check in. They showed us the rooms at the 1st floor that we could check in to. Allowing us to choose from the Double or single beds with private bathroom. We chose the one furthest away from the reception, and they warned us the wifi may be a bit poor. Its fine for us since we are here to relax with minimal distractions. The owner orientated us to the keys, other than our room key slot. They are keys for the sidedoor as their main door would close late at night and in the early morning. Which means we would not be left in the streets if we are back late or stuck in the guesthouse if we have to leave early. Fee so safe already. While chilling at the guesthouse, we wanted to have some hot chinese tea. The owner helped us to wash the teapot & cups. She also helped boiled a hot flask of water. It was a nice tea drinking session on a lazy afternoon. Thanks to the detailed description of how to get to the hornbill birds feeding location, we enjoyed ourselves there. So many of the birds there. We had also bought back some cold drinks after dinner at the seafood street to have it for our breakfast next day.The owner allowed us to put our drinks in.We needed to leave early at 7am+ as we had to catch the 830am bus at Lumut. The owner was kind enough to advise us on which ferry timing to take. Thank you very much for your awesome hospitality. The price is reasonably good for such...
Read moreStrategic location, less than 150meters away from Jetty||Got nice breakfast around. But, if compared ipoh and penang, of course, you will be disappointed about the taste. Anyway, for me,being food hunter, I still love the food, especially the coffee in any of the shops...opposite spk, got nice fried rice during lunch time||Surrounded by fishing village with warm welcome by local people. They always like to talk to you, guide you to explore the island and buy fresh seafood.||Owner of the guesthouse is nice. They will guide you, explain to you their local life. I think, in pangkor, if you are looking for fishing village life, this will be the place. ||BUT... BUT.... BUT..|to pay such price , get a bed that sink down (seem like the bed spring damaged already) when you sleep with hard pillow, without free mineral water supply (of course I support recycling program) without free coffee supplement will be bit not keep in par with current market price. To pay rm 80-100 to get a room for just air conditioning room with bathroom and sleep, I think will be bit pricy if you compare to tune hotel. Some more, room is without tv, tune hotel has. But, if you are the one looking for no t.v. in room, never care about the comfort of bed and just looking for fishing village , then this may your choice. But, bear in mind, there are some other similar guest house with better offer (In my opinion only) available there also. Anyway, this guesthouse has other better guesthouse (on the sea one) under their same company, which that one sound better a lot, which I would recommend that one rather...
Read moreSolo female backpacker, stayed 4 nights at Guesthouse SPK in private room with shared bathroom. The accommodations are very clean, everything worked (a/c, hot water, shower pressure, etc.) nice location in small Chinese fishing village, but best of all was the hospitality and friendliness of the host and her staff. Joyce explained everything about the island, how to get around, what activities and restaurants are available, and she was very approachable and willing to answer any questions or just talk. |They provide towels, free coffee and tea, info on buses/ferries/tours, drinking water, books. They also send a detailed arrival instructions email after booking which is welcoming and helpful.||Staying in the village of SPK rather than the more touristy beach side was nice because food is cheaper and it was a truly local experience. The beach is still accessible-One day I rented a bicycle, another day a motorbike, and there is also taxi service. Locals are friendly, food is plentiful, the jetty is close and easy to get to. ||I recommend Guesthouse SPK 100% for anyone looking for budget accommodation in a local scene with friendly staff. The owners also run the Pangkor Fish house guesthouse down the road; this one is right on the water and has a beautiful view. Another good option. I hope I can...
