Stayed at Grand Orient for one night for a business trip, and even though the hotel catered more for families with children (they have an in-house water park, though I did not try it out), I was generally satisfied with my stay.||||||Room:||||Being relatively new certainly helped them in this regard, as the room's fittings were good and intact and the room itself felt fresh despite not having any windows. Bed and linen were comfortable, and the room was equipped with basic amenities. They provided an ironing board and iron which was a handy addition. Toilet was clean and modern. ||||My only complaint - the toilet had a small tube (most probably for draining air-conditioning condensate water) sticking out of the ceiling directly on top the sink, which dripped water once in a while. Definitely something that needs to be improved on. Also, the room was quite small and felt slightly cramped.||||||Location:||||Not very conducive, as there are hardly any shops within walking distance. The nearest convenience store would be a petrol station, about a 5-minute walk away. You would have to drive out for food and goods.||||||Staff:||||Professional and welcoming. No complaints. ||||||Conclusion:||||Even though the Grand Orient had an in-house water park and was more family-oriented, the hotel premises was generally clean. It is probably not well suited for certain target groups, so do bear in mind what your priorities are before considering this place. All in all an ok place, though I may have scored it higher if it weren't for the odd water leak issue...
Read moreGrand Orient Perai Hotel, Penang has been in business for more than a year. It is considered a boutique hotel as it is a small number if rooms less than 50. Located behind BHP Petrol Station and BMW Showroom as landmarks to exit from the main road to the hotel.||||The rooms are on the small side and compact but quite comfortable. Air-cond. worked well, there is a cupboard to keep clothings, powerful shower spray, safe deposit, good sizeable TV with very clear pictures. For double bed there are 4 pillows which we like it very much.||||They have good supporting staff willing to assist. The breakfast though with limited choice but very delicious. The nasi lemak is the best and taste better than 5-Star hotel. Parking is available for about 30 cars but the are parking spaces outside the gate. Free wifi is available plus coffee & tea maker. Iron board is also available but we need to request for the iron without any problem.||||The hotel has a nice water theme which is a plus factor for family with children with entry fee of RM 15 for staying guests and they allow non hotel guests to use the facility too at slightly higher price than the staying guests.||||We find it a very interesting hotel with unique design using cut stone found in Bali. It is quite low priced hotel but with luxurious appearance. For the first time we found a really good hotel at budget price. Keep up the good work Grand Orient Hotel. We can’t wait to return to your hotel.||||Saha & Yam||Stayed November...
Read moreThe hotel industry is becoming so competitive that you have to create new ideas to promote and bring in the crowds. One such hostelry that projected a new concept for the enjoyment of their guests is Grand Orient in the heart of the fast pace Perai development region mushrooming with loads of mega projects. The hotel's location is easily accessible even though you're not a local. Though it has a very nice and unique pool that would surely draws in clientele but this place lacks in customer support services, the staffs shortfall is very obvious in the approach. Since they're in the service industries the upmost priority would be able to communicate efficiently. I admired the setting of the rooms, modern in nature but a little smaller and compact hardly enough room for two person to move freely. I am captivated with their alluring beauty on this, I would applaud and compliment them for the good work setup. Their egoistic approach to create something different resulted in overlooking the reception area, the first appearance of the tavern is awkwardly projected. There's a need to improve further on the reception hall, overall I enjoyed my stay and the facilities of the pool. I did not sample the food here because of the tempting Penang hawker food available.
