Cleanliness: Lobby: Dull and unkempt. Lobby toilet: Disgraceful. Dingy and wet floors. Surau: Pathetic. Smelly telekung and sejadah. Baroness: Fair. Swimming Pool: Dirty. Not been cleaned. Shower taps missing and not working. Location: Excellent. Mins walk to Taman Tasik Taiping. 10-15mins walk to Bkt Larut trailhead. Less than 10mins drive to eateries. Service: Front Desk: Lack of interpersonal skills. No greetings. No warmth to acknowledge or courtesy to offer guests with a smile, no gestures to offer guests to have a seat while they’re attending to another guests or preparing their check ins/check outs. House Maintenance: ABSOLUTELY RUDE. He was called to unplugged the faulty bathtub plug. Housekeeping nor hotel did not inform me that the bathtub can’t be used as a tub. *!Bell Boys: Useless. Didn’t offer any service at all. Baroness Coffee House: Food spread is good but tasteless. They served poor low quality food. Frozen popiah, croissants, cucur badak and potato wedges. Stone cold pandan Cake straight from the fridge. Nasi Lemak Pandan didn’t smell pandan at all and used green food coloring instead. A huge pile of foods especially the Nasi Lemak was left uneaten due to the lack of quality. Food wastage is observed. They really need to change the chef. Cik Liana 27.6.2025 portrayed professionally while listening to our constructive comments. She wore gloves while serving, refilling and cleaning the tables. The other servers did not. Amenities: Fair. Overall the Grand Baron Hotel needs more uplifting. The entrance and facade is sad, dull and empty. Some greens and lightings would improve the look. The lobby is unwelcoming. I was told the GM Ms Yong hardly comes and obviously couldn’t care less about the well being of the hotel let...
Read morePassed by and saw this looking new and modern hotel, decided to give it a try and brought my family for a night stay. It turned out to be a bad decision.
The only good thing is the spacious connecting rooms with bathtub at a reasonable price. And the rest feel free to read on.
Receptionist and check in time: I arrived at 245pm for 3pm check in, went to the receptionist wanting to process the document and pay security deposit first, then I was told that the check-in counter will only open at 3pm for check in. First time ever I encounter situation like this, after staying in many different hotels (cheap or expensive) in Southeast Asia. Some hotels make it clear they do not allow early check-in, but they will still process the documents and pass the key after 3pm, which I totally understand. What is worst is, there were about 6-8 people sitting in the lobby (lobby no A/C, so it was stuffy despite the glass doors were opened), waiting for the counter to open.
Room From my taiping friend I know that this is a new hotel, but apparently it is not. The room door is not even digital door lock that you swipe the card like other hotels. I had to open it with a key and push very hard. Totally not a fan with this. Also, the room is in fact dim and dusty, comes with stained bedsheet.
Breakfast Well I did not hold high expectation on the breakfast as it is complimentary, and i have seen many reviews that the breakfast is not good. But what my mom (who practice no food get wasted her whole life) said just bring it to another level. She said she cant even finish the black coffee (extremely diluted and tasteless) and fried kuey teow.
Overall saying,...
Read morei would say this hotel has so much potential to become a great hotel, from a mediocre hotel it is now. ||||The location is perfect.. within the vicinity of the famous Taiping Lake Garden but towards Bukit Larut. Though it is bit out of the main road, it is still good reach by vehicles. Or if u stay without vehicle, u still can call for Grab for food. etc. I saw an archery field at the back of the hotel. And i know, nearly there is a waterfall area.||||In front of this property, there is another equally interesting looking accommodation called Kamal Lodge that i can clearly see from my room Room 204. My room, though a Standard Room, was adequately furnished, though the aircond was OK OK only prolly because they use 1hp aircond, for a relatively big room. The towel though clean, was already old and time to change it. ||||Breakfast was additional RM25 though i didnt take it, but i saw the restaurant was big and welcoming.||||The lobby i thnk, can be further improved. Prolly, u guys can provide bicycle renting service etc to the guest. Maybe they have, i didnt asked. I just wish the lobby and the lift have more soft touch to make the guest more..welcomed? But the lobby staffs were courteous and friendly and accommodating as i need to borrow their phone charger for a while. some newer hotel stayed already have the USB plug in the room though.||||anyway, i still want to recommend this place for families..as their pool look interesting for kids..though the water looked bit murky. and the big room of course. But ya i want to come back in the future to check on...
