OYO 796 Jr Hotel — Hotel in Perak

Looks like this hotel has revamped its Google presence where I had to review it again. I am a frequent visitor this year so I shall give an honest review.

Likes: Friendly staff, easy check-in, good location with nearby Shell, several late night groceries, workshop, laundry, Thai-style Malay restaurant and Mamak restaurant within 5 minutes walking. There is a stall selling Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah which is very delicious and cheap less than 2 minutes walk from the lobby. The surrounding environment is calm and quite despite pungent odor from the main drainage opposite the hotel and occasional sounds by Mat Rempits and passing lorries and trellers. The room facilities are simple, spacious with functional aircond and heater, clean corridor and no weird sounds at night.

Dislikes: Hahaha...well, I said I shall give an honest review so here it is.

The good old days, the pillows were quite fat and squishy but now it is not. WiFi at First Floor always having problem. When addressing the issue, the receptionist always say this generic retort - "for the time being for the past 3-4 days, we are having some technical difficulties on the wifi at first floor". I mean, since early this year you guys are still having the same issue? Lavatories in certain rooms (especially 103, 204 and sometimes 203) are not really being properly kept clean. Mould and stains are visible with naked eyes. Room floor sometimes can be dusty. Recent stay (again in September 2019) at 103 was full with dust and dirt around the bed. Mould and black stain in the lavatory are also visible (pictures as evidence) but the janitor and the managements seems oblivious despite several tap on their shoulder. Recent stays in Oct 2019 encountered some wifi problem at all floor except the lobby. I think the management opted for budget cuts. Informed the male Indian staff (must be the boss) but apparently no follow-up is being made.

Suggestion to Patrons: Bring your own sandal to keep your feet and bed clean. Also bring your own extension because no power plug is installed beside the bed in certain room. Recent stay in room 210 (deluxe double) is the worst because it is located the farthest behind thus NO wifi signal at all so please DO NOT take this room. The room has traditional glass window so when I entered the room, it was already opened, hence the mosquitoes (because beneath exterbal the room is dark alley and drains).

Suggestions to the Hotel Management: FIXED YOUR WIFI and take some time to SCRUB AND CLEAN the shower nozzles and handles in all room.

Bonus Point: Patron can call the hotel to reserve personal choice on the room (based on room booking type) prior check-in even made via online platform (subject to availability).

Additional Info: I never opened the TV so I am unable to advise the condition of the channels.

Verdict: I always come here because of the spacious room, cheap rate, accessible Malay eateries, late night groceries and...

Booked because price shown was lower. But sad need to topup at counter as price shown lower than minimum price for the room. Surprisely got room with queen bed. Worth for topup but felt the room too wide for 1 person....

Overall its good staying here, worth the price given. Shampoo and towels not provided. So don't forget to bring yours if you decide to stay at Oyo hotels.The rate really helps anyone who in short vacation and in low...
