Restaurant Chai Chin: A Sitiawan Must-Try (For the Fish Head!)
Based on a friend's recommendation, I ventured to Restaurant Chai Chin in Sitiawan specifically for their famous steamed fish head. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
Star of the Show: The Steamed Fish Head
This dish was undeniably the star of the show. The fish head was incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection, with the flesh remaining moist and tender. The key seems to be the flavorful broth it's steamed in, creating a true mouthwatering experience.
Elevating the Experience:
A must-add to the steamed fish head is the onion topping. The onions provide a delightful textural contrast and add another layer of flavor to the dish. Don't forget the provided plum either! Squeezing it over the fish adds a touch of sourness that beautifully complements the savoriness of the dish.
Simple, Satisfying Meal:
As there were only two of us, we opted to keep things simple and just ordered the steamed fish head with a side of ladies' fingers (okra). It was the perfect amount of food, leaving us comfortably full and completely satisfied.
Repeat Customer Alert:
The combination of delicious food, fast and friendly service, and reasonable prices makes Restaurant Chai Chin a definite winner. This will be a mandatory stop on my future trips to Sitiawan!
Focus on the Flavor:
While the ambiance at Restaurant Chai Chin is clean and well-ventilated, it's important to note that there's no air conditioning. However, for those who prioritize an exceptional steamed fish head experience, this is a minor detail.
Overall:
If you're looking for a delicious and affordable steamed fish head in Sitiawan, Restaurant Chai Chin is the place to go. Just be sure to order the onion topping and squeeze that plum – it elevates the...
Read moreFood is really good as usual. The steamed fish and bak kut teh is great. And they are honest when it comes to charging. Haven't heard any negative feedback that they overcharge even though a lot of non-locals frequent this restaurant.
However, drop 1 star due to non-compliance with health and safety SOP. Sadly I see many local businesses like this not adhering to social distancing etc and while they have tables marked X, they still allow customers to sit there. Bowls of rice are carried from table to table, imagine if an infected person's saliva droplets get into the rice then the rice comes to your table. Disturbing. Don't feel like returning in near future. Hope they be more...
Read moreWhile Chai Chin mainly serves Bak Kut Teh with sweet and rich broth, its ultimate weapon is actually fish head. It was also one of the best steamed fishes we had ever tried, particularly due to its unique recipe using premium light soy sauce, topped with generous amount of red onion. Be sure to sprinkle it with limes provided for sui generis sweet and sour taste. Suitable for 4 pax and above. Be ready to create a hole in your pocket as a grouper’s tail can easily cost one green-blue banknote. Nonetheless, it is still worth the Cha-Ching in...
