Read moreUnfortunately for us, we had a horrible stay. We were aware of the basic amenities but it was alot less than we desired and hospitality was poor if not absent. We stayed for only one night. Not worth the money, we paid about RM300 for one night (booked through airbnb), plus rm200 for boat there and back (RM50 per person each way, there was 2 of us), total is RM500. I felt we could stay in one of the other nearby water houses or at the town for better amenities and hospitality. LOCATION - accurate to description, in the middle of the sea, facing boheydulang. CHECK IN - waited at jetty, host was 30mins late but we can understand because there was a major festival at the time (Regatta Lepa Lepa) however pick up host was not friendly, not smiling at all. Dropped us off at the place and collected our money then we never saw him again. HOSPITALITY - During our stay, we only saw 2 other staff, both did not attempt to greet us, only coming out when serving food, not smiling. FOOD - Food was very basic. 2 vegetables, 1 fish dish and 1 chicken dish for dinner. Chicken and vegetables were ok but fish tasted funny. We had an upset tummy after that, loose bowels for the next 3 days. BATHROOM - no showerhead, bucket of water and a smaller bucket with handle for shower. No soap/shampoo. BEDROOM - we were aware that the room would have basic amenities and have read the earlier reviews and thought that it will be cool enough to sleep at night with the sea breeze but it was actually unbearably warm, there was no breeze at all for a few hours that night and lots of mosquitoes. The room was too warm to be in during the day. The thin blanket given gave us an itch. It will be much nicer if there was at least a small fan. Power generator starts at 6pm and it is fairly loud at night, difficult to sleep. It seems that they were constructing/renovating a room next to ours, banging and hammering noises started at 6am which woke us up from what was a poor night's sleep anyway. AMENITIES - electricity only from 6pm to 6am. no wifi but local data plan works fine. Kayak boat - rental fee is RM30 per hour. Snorkel gear also requires a fee to use. No option of buying other drinks. They only provide plain water, black tea bags and instant coffee. Will be nice if they had canned drinks, coconuts or other...

I don't have words to describe this. I'm in love🙏💙. I only want to say that before this, I had never experienced anything like it. The place, the setting, the people, the sea and breeze that wash your face 24/7... Unbelievable, unforgettable. Since coming back I have only been thinking how to return to this place as soon as possible. My soul cries after Maglami and I've been touched forever. Just one note, I hate to do that but I have to because among us are people who can't or don't know how to appreciate beauty of nature and ocean in its full. Yes, the accommodation is basic - BUT absolutely fantastic. Fantastic bed and sleep I had! Bucket for shower - loved it, living like a local! Clean and fresh water. No shampoo or shower gel, well it's on the sea, bring your own (no big deal) but don't overuse it, it goes to the water anyway. Fan is provided but for me it was unnecessary. Sleeping with the door closed and escaping the freshness or night ocean breeze would be a sin. Watching sunrise upon waking up and hearing the waves gently splash around? Jumping to the sea from your private deck? Observing star fish from your door? OMG, addictive material. The family keep improving the place every day so it's only going to be better and better. But I hope the natural vibe and rudimentary style will be kept because that's what makes it unique. And the fact that they are involved in educating locals about preserving the ocean is indeed a fantastic bonus. I feel blessed to have been included too, even if so briefly. Hospitality of these people is amazing too.
This place made me want to drop everything and stay there forever. Learn fishing or I don't know. Join sea Bajau, whatever 😀 If at some point you feel something is not right, just stop for a minute, look out the door, breathe the salty air and say a little prayer, because if God hasn't been here in person to give this place a veil of heaven, then I'll be doomed. I'm still shivering when writing this review. Terima kasih Maglami. Tempat tercinta...
