Detailed review:
This stay couldn't have been better. We felt well looked after. Mr. Sameer, the owner, is a thorough professional. He's worked at quite a few places in quite a few countries, so he's gathered and assimilated all that knowledge and etiquette into his guesthouse. His passion for service, and not just for money, speaks for itself in every area. The food was good, even though we only had the breakfast there. The snorkeling trip with him was great! The pricing for the activities offered are reasonable. He sent us an edited video from his GoPro for free, without us even asking for it. That was very sweet of him, to do that on his own, taking time out of his busy schedule to edit the video. Very kind gesture! This was our third trip to Maldives and the last two times we stayed at resort islands. This, however, was our best trip. Most value for money, very enjoyable at a fraction of the cost, with ultimate professionalism. At both the "reputed" resort islands, we felt neglected and strongly felt more than once, that the quality of service was dependent on the amount of tips the guest could afford and their skin colour, feeling cheated and hurt in spite of spending a huge sum of money on the stays. On Huraa island, there's both local and guest (bikini) beaches on the island. Mr. Sameer offers free bicycles to use for his guests during the stay, which is very generous, considering we'd have to pay 10 USD for 3 hours per bicycle on Thulusdhoo island, which was a let down (not to mention every single thing was charged extra, there). Grocery stores are walkable. This guesthouse is at a walkable distance to the beach; in any case you can take the bicycle there. They offer unlimited RO water to their guests. You can fill your bottles whenever you want, from the common area where there's a water filter that works as a second filter to the piped drinking water that's supplied to the guesthouse. So the water was almost yummy, considering we had not-so-good tasting water on Thulusdhoo island. It probably does taste weird elsewhere on Huraa island without filters installed; no idea about that. There's even a mini fridge, so if you want your water cold, you can pop the refillable glass bottles into the fridge; no need to pay and buy plastic bottles of water. Save the planet! Also, beach towels are kept outside the rooms in the passage and we can take it, use it, bring it back and drop it into the laundry basket. Very efficient and no-nonsense process! Also, the beds are the most comfortable ever! Not even exaggerating, I think I've had the best sleep here out of the 200-odd hotel rooms I've stayed in, in my life! So that is saying something. The bathrooms are lovely, just the right amount of space. Shower gel, conditioner and shampoo are provided, where the shower gel doubles up as handwash. Good water pressure with stable temperature. Good quality tissue paper! I always judge if a hotel or guesthouse cheaps out on tissue paper quality. Here, it was definitely one of the best! Also, there was some noise from the fan in the room and Mr. Sameer promptly got it looked at and replaced at night, ensuring we had a wonderful sleep after. The AC is pretty efficient. There's also a coat hanger. Outside, a common cloth drying stand. Ultimate value for money and professionalism from Mr. Sameer. One day I wasn't feeling too good so I was given a lemon, with which I made lemon juice in the room and drank, which gave me relief. He followed up on my health the next day. This level of commitment to service and being 'hospitable' in the real sense, and not just for money, can only come from deep passion to do your best for your guests, which is very evident in his attitude, demeanour and approach. He's currently planning a 5-6 storeyed hotel nearby and we wish him only success in all his endeavours. Being a thorough gentleman and a wonderful host, he completely deserves it. We will definitely be back in a few years, to his new hotel. Hopefully we'll get a room, because I'm sure it will be in high demand! Thank you for a...
Read moreWe stayed at Sunrise Huraa for 2 nights before going to the airport, we arrived quite early in the morning by public ferry from another island. The staff was already there waiting for us at the port. They took us to the guesthouse by a nice car, Sameer the owner was there waiting for us with welcoming fresh juice and cold towel! Then he introduced everything a tourist needs in the island: bikini beach, resterants, activities...
Room is very clean and pleasant, basket for dirty towels, extra bottled water and clean towels are at the corridor, you serve yourself whenever you need them. Sammeer is very professional, I have to say!
We spent time exploring the island by bike(it's free to use them), and by walking, it's a crab island I'd name it! There are countless crab holes alongside the mangrove bank, huge ones!! I have never seen so many crabs in my life! Sameer would take you to catch them if you want. They are huge, don't use your bare hands hahaha
The night before we leave, Sameer invited us to a dinner! He is super super nice guy! We are really appreciated it. Guess what, one huge Red Grouper for each of us! We were so touched by his kindness. Top taste! He even prepared us rice and chili paste because we are Chinese.
Sameer talked a lot about his career back when he worked at Four Seasons, now he's heading for his own hotel, he will open a nice hotel in one year hopefully in Huraa not far from this one, he even showed us the ongoing project, his vision and his plans. We are so exited for him. Good luck with his new hotel and we'll come...
Read moreThe Sunrise Huraa is located on the eastern edge of the Island overlooking the gorgeous whitesand and the vividly blue ocean. We were were amazed at the hospitality by Mr. Sameer who owns and runs the property. In short we felt like family during our 4 day stay at The Huraa. It is a single storeyed boutique hotel with 5 rooms on the ground floor . The restaurant is quaint with 6 to 7 tables perfect for a couple or a family of 4. Set up and ambience is quite romantic. The team at Sunrise was always on their feet to make sure that we had a comfortable stay right from offering us the welcome drink promptly on arrival to a smooth check out experience. The rooms have everything one needs for a leisurely stay : coffee/tea maker, abundant tea and coffee satches, fresh fruits (They were the best and freshest I had till date), unlimited drinking water, hair dryer, clothes rack, mini fridge, toiletries etc. They even provide you with a cell phone with a local SIM to contact the hotel in case of queries. The restaurant serves American, maldivian and continental breakfast, and their alacarte menu is simple yet enticing! The staff is courteous and goes out of the way to make sure customers are satisfied! They even have their own snorkelling equipment. To sum it up, we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay in Maldives than The Sunrise. Maldivians are simple, kind and generous people. I can say that I have made new friends there and will go back to The Sunrise again for a...
