We booked to stay at the Preskil for 3 weeks - 1 family room for 2 adults and 2 kids and 1 standard room for an 81 year old adult (our Nan). Whilst there were some positives, generally it was not great.||Let’s start with the positives:||Location and size - One of the main reasons as it’s near to our families who we visit often and also near the airport. The hotel also has a smaller footprint so we had less to walk to with our Nan to use the hotel facilities.||Room allocation - We requested ground floor rooms near each other and the hotel did this for us and in order to accommodate, they even upgraded the standard room for our Nan to a premium room which was appreciated.||Staff members who deserve recognition|Buffet Restaurant - Chef Gopee, Zahed and Kendy. When they were on, the quality of the food was much better. Chef Gopee’s gnocchi with cress is a recipe I will happily recreate at home. Kendy’s omelettes at breakfast was our go to every time he was on shift.|Vic always tried his best to give us an appropriate table at the restaurant.|Tupsy and Sonoo at the gate security were always helpful with assisting us getting a spot to pick up / drop off our Nan when the car park was busy and we had to park in the overflow parking.|Vinay with carrying and loading our significant number of luggage!||Hotel facilities - there were always plenty of loungers to use around the beach so it was never a rush to ‘reserve’ one early. The beach was nice and not crowded as it’s not connected to the mainland.||Hotel activities - there were plenty for the kids and adults on the list. We didn’t use any ourselves but the list did look interesting. The little negative that I would add is the kids club staff come every morning at breakfast asking if the kids would like to participate. It’s awkward as most people just want to have their breakfast.||Sadly, this is about all the positive I can list and now on to the negatives:|Price - Whilst the price for the premium room seemed reasonable, the family room was a complete rip off. At double the price, you would expect more space. This was not the case at all. The room was very cramped and claustrophobic, hardly any space to walk around the parent’s bed and not even a sofa / space to sit. The kids' beds were just about ok for 2 small kids. And the room only had one bathroom. Considering this room is sold for 2 adults and up to 3 teenagers, I cannot see how this would work! The price did not reflect this at all. For context we have stayed at other hotels with family rooms twice the size, including 2 bathrooms and sofa area for the same price! This was a total rip off. And the hotel staff confirmed that all the family rooms are like this which is very disappointing. Poor design and pricing! The air conditioning was also poor and is badly in need of a regas. Quality control / checks are probably non-existent.||Room cleanliness - This was a lottery depending on who cleaned the room. On some rare occasions you'll get a floor clean and a mop, on others you won’t even get a brush. I never saw a vacuum cleaner in use, just brush and pan. Our socks were black from how dirty the floor was. The drains were also very smelly.||Service - There are some ‘old guards’ staff who clearly have a passion to provide high levels of service, but sadly the rest, out of which most were trainees (too many trainees in our opinion) lacked this. In addition, you get 2 tier service, one for Mauritians and one for Tourists. One of the most obvious examples was when we arrived in the morning around 9am after a long flight, as soon as our paperwork was processed, we were point blank told that check in is not until 2 so we’ll have to wait (totally understandable and no problems there). We were also then told that our package only starts with dinner tonight so if we wanted some breakfast we’d have to pay extra. Again, understandable. But the tone was simply rude and we didn’t even ask for early check in or breakfast. The departure lounge which was offered to wait in for several hours was underground and hardly relaxing - no offer to even use the hotel facilities during the wait. We got out of the hotel and went out for breakfast instead. For guests staying 3 weeks in 2 rooms, you’d think a complimentary breakfast would be offered? Well, to our surprise, on the day we were leaving, we witnessed a tourist family in the same situation as us arriving and being offered complimentary breakfast! 2 tier service levels right there.|We requested a particular table / type of table at the restaurant due to our Nan’s mobility requirements and despite the staff saying this is sorted, it was never guaranteed. This is definitely possible as other tourists had their table reserved everyday for every meal! Again, one service for locals and one service for tourists. Thanks to Vic for doing his best when he was on to assist us.||Our room was also late to be ready as the previous guest decided to not leave! Not the hotel / staff fault I know but there was no apology given until I complained about it. As a gesture (from different staff) we were given a late checkout which we were grateful for as our return flight was in the evening.||Generally you can see the lack of experience showing as you’d ask for something and on a couple of occasions you’ll get it and others the staff will just disappear. They were like headless chickens. This was mostly with the customer service team as well, of all the teams!||Pest control - needs improving. One day there was a rat scurrying across the floor of the restaurant.||A la carte restaurants - both a la carte restaurants are disappointing. Food is average and practically everything on the menu is a supplement in the Mosaic, even if you are on all inclusive. The 1810 is advertised as a premium seafood restaurant and not included in any package. However, we were offered a complimentary long stayer menu (which is very limited). Sadly not only did it not live up to expectations but it was also a waste of 2 hours. The marlin and palm heart salad for starters did not have any marlin at all. For a seafood restaurant, they overcooked my octopus to the point of it being very chewy. The food lacked taste in general and if I had to pay for this meal I would have asked for a refund. The buffet with the chefs mentioned above was much nicer!||In summary, the hotel has good potential. It’s certainly not what we would call a 4 star establishment. Due to the size of the family room, it's not somewhere we would stay again for that price too. 3 family rooms in a block should be combined into 2 to allow for enough space for a family properly. If the price was much lower, then you could forgive the room size but the service definitely needs to improve and everybody should get the same level of service. This 2 tier service is shameful and not dignified of Mauritian...
Read moreWe stayed at Preskil Island Resort in February 2025 with our family, including our baby. Unfortunately, several issues made our stay less enjoyable than expected. However, there were also some positive aspects worth mentioning.
Positive Points: Tikoulou Kids Club: The highlight of our stay! The childcare was loving and professional, with Lorie and Julie providing exceptional care for the children. Well-maintained beach: The beach was clean, with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas available. Family-friendly pools & good kids’ activities: The pools were well-kept and suitable for families. Baby cot & useful room amenities: The baby cot was comfortable, and the bathroom had enough hooks and a clothesline for drying laundry. Breakfast packs: A great option for guests leaving early or going on excursions. Convenient location near the airport: Ideal for a short transfer. Bright, modern room design: The rooms were nicely furnished and visually appealing. Typ C and G electrical sockets. No need for an adapter
Negative Points: Cleanliness issues: We encountered during our stay some cockroaches (also in the restaurant), ants in the dining area, and bedsheets were not changed even after being removed. Repetitive food & limited choices: The buffet lacked variety, and there were no proper meal options for babies or small children. Snacks were not available throughout the day. Food safety concerns: I suffered from food poisoning during my stay and, after that, only ate what I considered "safe." This significantly impacted my dining experience. Confusing all-inclusive concept: Several dining options required additional payments, and the inclusions for different packages were very unnecessary. Inconsistent service: While some staff, like Tanya, were extremly friendly, warm-hearted, child friendly (very big thank you!!), others seemed unmotivated, unhappy and some even as if they were exploited (the ones making pizza and pasta for the guests). Reception provided incorrect taxi fare information, causing issues when leaving for the airport. The driver told us at the airport 1300, the hotel 1000. We only had 1000 left. Chaotic housekeeping: Rooms were left open while cleaning, leading to mosquitos entering. Housekeeping visits were frequent but disorganized, with separate trips for cleaning, refilling the fridge, changing water bottles, and checking on guests. Very annoying Inconvenient bathroom design: The bathroom lacked privacy and did not feel safe for babies climbing the concrete step. Unreliable Wi-Fi: The internet connection was unstable. Limited accessibility outside the resort: There were no sidewalks, making it impossible to walk into town with a stroller. No mosquito screens: We couldn’t open the windows or balcony doors without risking insect infestations. No air ventilation in the bathroom. Inflexible air conditioning: The temperature settings were impractical—22°C was too cold (my wife catched a cold), while 23°C was too warm (none of us could sleep with a blanket anymore).
Conclusion: While the resort had some great aspects, especially for families with children, the lack of cleanliness, service inconsistencies, and food limitations affected our overall experience. With improvements in these areas, it could be a fantastic...
Read moreIf you are looking for a relaxing, tropical, nature-based holiday, this would be a very good option. It is an easy, 15 minute drive from the airport. Upon arrival, we were greeted with cool, wet flannels and a glass of sugar cane juice, much needed after a long flight. The hotel is very stylish, with many stunning plants that provide a tropical feel and decorations that reference the natural environment. The photos on the website are a true reflection, not only of the best parts. We were in a superior room and were pleasantly surprised by the size. There were two sinks and a large shower, plus a huge bed. There were also thoughtful, unexpected details, such as a drying line in the shower. There were more than enough towels, plus beach towels. Plus, the WiFi was very good - we were expecting to need to buy new SIM cards, but it wasn’t necessary.
My wife has a serious dairy allergy so we spoke to Linda, the Customer Care Manager, who immediately called for the help of Patrice, who is well-experienced in dealing with food allergies. They told us that instead of using the buffet, they would ask the chef to cook a meal specifically for her every evening that contained no traces of dairy. They didn’t make us feel as though we were causing inconvenience; the next day we arrived for breakfast on a beautiful, specially decorated table looking out over the sea. The staff are very friendly and somebody checked on us every time we ate to make sure that we were happy with the food. Patrice checked in on my wife every day.
The hotel beach is at the edge of a lagoon with some of the best snorkelling I have ever done, with box fish, butterfly fish and many others, all within 10m of the beach. At one point, within 30m of the hotel, I was surrounded by a shoal of thousands of small fish, circling me. The hotel provides a free glass-bottom boat trip and a free snorkelling trip, too. A five minute walk away, there is a place where you can take the 5 minute boat ride to the nearby island and see giant tortoises, including hundreds of young ones, all part of a captive breeding programme. Just outside the hotel we saw a macaque and every evening, huge flying foxes flew over the resort. The staff are very tolerant of the wildlife, with local birds always in proximity.
Across the road from the hotel, there are taxis specifically licenced for the hotel, waiting to take guests where they want to go. For around 5000 Mauritian Rupees, they will drive you for the day, stopping at key tourism destinations.
The hotel has a relaxed vibe, so if late night, loud entertainment is your thing, it’s probably not the best one for you. I loved that about the hotel. There was subtle entertainment every evening that didn’t disturb us when we just wanted to relax on the patio and didn’t keep us awake late at night. The atmosphere in general was serene. Everything was easy and relaxing and it felt like a real getaway. I would strongly recommend Mauritius and this hotel in particular.
Special thanks to Linda, Patrice and our excellent room...
