This is exactly the feeling that the InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort gave us from the very beginning. We wanted our trip to be something special, and thanks to the exceptional friendliness of the front office team, the concierge, the restaurant staff and everyone else, it was. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with a warm smile. The receptionist took the time to explain all the hotel's amenities in detaill and gave us valuable tips for the surrounding area. A big thank you goes to Pascaline, who was able to welcome guests who were hardly tired after the exhausting flight. The check-in not only went smoothly, but the personalised service was the perfect start to an unforgettable stay. We immediately felt welcome and cared for - the well-being of each individual guest really takes centre stage here.

I would particularly like to emphasise how the entire front office team and the concierge always recommended great excursion destinations to us. One unforgettable excursion was arranged by Kevin, where we had the opportunity to swim with dolphins. This unique experience made our stay even more special and was an absolute highlight of our trip. He was also our constant point of contact and looked after our well-being. We hope that we are not forgetting anyone, but we would also like to thank Sonia, Aditi, Khilesh and Ben, who always had an open ear for us. They have all found a place in our hearts.

This special atmosphere continued in the restaurant. We were warmly greetd every morning and the team made sure that we were always seated with a beautiful view - exactly as we wished. Throughout our stay, extreme care was taken to cater to our personal sensitivities, which made our visit very special. Especially on the last evening - it was important for us to have an unforgettable ending - and the team made it possible for us to fulfil last-minute requests to make this evening perfect. Big thanks go to Komal, Robert, Samir, Patrick, Vishal, Vivek and Ramsingh, who let us end the last evening with pleasure thanks to his creations.

The housekeeping team deserves special praise. Our room was lovingly prepared every day and it was the small gestures that made the difference: a friendly greeting in the corridor and the constant question as to whether we needed anything else. It was noticeable that everything is done here to make guests feel at home. The turndown and amenity service was also outstanding. The kitchen also deserves great praise for the superbly prepared treatments.

The excellent service continued in the spa. Before the massage, the staff asked about our special wishes so that the treatment could be tailored exactly to us. This personalised attention was remarkable and contributed significantly to our relaxation.

Even when we left early in the morning, the front office team left a lasting impression. They enquired about our impressions and bid us a warm farewell with the sincere hope of welcoming us back soon.

All in all, our stay was characterised by exceptional service that went far beyond the service of a 5* star hotel. The front office team, the concierge and the restaurant staff created an atmosphere in which we felt completely relaxed and cared for - almost like at home, only better. We are already looking forward to our next visit and wish everyone, named and unnamed, all the very best...

Well first of all, it was for me a birthday celebration, it was the weekend that I celebrated my birthday with my family after I flew back to Mauritius from the UAE on the 11th March. Despite me phoning the call centre in the UAE advising for my birthday celebration and even put a note on my reservation, honestly, not even a soul was aware that I was here for that occasion.

The reservation team first comment was to inform me that my stay was room only and that i will have to pay for my food. Truth be told, maybe from the website, i was not aware and thought it was half board. However, I fully did understand and paid for a half board for the whole family.

2.I used both my coupons for complimentary suite upgrade, I received the upgrade for my room and the kids did not receive any upgrade

The room was big but I should say need serious renovation and is very tired

The balcony is outside the lobby on the room's ground floor is not properly cleaned and does not reflect a 5 star hotel

The pest control is seriously a problem in the suite. Thermites, cockroaches, ants and wasps all over the place along with bird excrements on the chairs which was never changed throughout my 2 nights stay

Food at the Senseo buffet dinner was not at all a 5 star level. I have been staying in 4 star hotels with far better options at the buffet than this restaurant. Note that I am also Mariott Elite member as well as Accor. To cite a few examples: No seafood on the buffet ( no octopus, no shrimps or prawns, no calamari, no crabs, no pork, only one beef and one lamb dish), a live station buffet grilling vegetarian buffer and ok there were small pieces of fish. Not even a burger station. Only one beef menu and with slices of beef( of low quality) in a Thai sauce. Most of the working personnel being Indian origin, I was expecting a tasty lamb curry but it was veery blunt and lack taste. I should say the quality of the lamb was good though. Very very disappointing buffet compared to the other 5 stars in Mauritius itself.

Breakfast, was ok, again not even close to a 5 star restaurant. Very important note, the fried noodles when it is cooked and you have put a lot of cabbage in same and when covered on the buffet, it rapidly turns bad and lose all the crispiness and does not have a pleasant odour and taste.

The SPA chill bath was not operational and the jacuzzi tub lining was very dirty

The buffet at the Mediterranean restaurant, a la carte was good and tasty and the staff were very polite and courteous. However, the beef, lamb and octopus quality were poor. The desserts were very good.

Night animation was good and entertaining

Unfortunately due to the sea which was a bit rough, we did not have the chance to do some water activties.

Amneties provided in the room should reflect 5 star quality

I would like to also highlight that I have stayed at your facility in Mubai and this is the standard that Intercon should be.

Just mentioning the above since there is much improvement to be done at the InterCOn...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Honeymoon Experience

We chose the InterContinental Mauritius for our honeymoon, and it turned out to be the trip of a lifetime—one we will never forget. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and genuine care that we instantly felt at home.

The grounds are simply stunning—vast, beautifully kept, and full of hidden corners to explore. Whether we were enjoying the beach, relaxing by the pools, or trying out the wide range of activities on offer, there was always something to make each day special.

The food was absolutely exquisite—from the generous breakfasts with a local twist, to the romantic dinner on the private island, every meal was a celebration of flavor and presentation. The private island dinner at sunset was one of the highlights of our lives: the setting was breathtaking, the atmosphere magical, and the food was to die for.

We also treated ourselves to the romantic 3-hour couple spa experience, and it was simply bliss. We haven’t felt that relaxed in a long time—it was the perfect way to unwind after the wedding, and made our honeymoon feel even more indulgent and restorative.

We would like to give special thanks to those who made our honeymoon extra memorable: • Rochelle, for her warm welcome that set the tone for our stay. • Vipin, who truly made our honeymoon unforgettable. His charm, care, and attention during the private island dinner created a once-in-a-lifetime experience we will cherish forever. • Sunil, with his kind care and infectious big smile. • Ezekiel, for the unforgettable fire show performance. • Kevin & Nandan from Veda Restaurant, who looked after us in every way imaginable. • Suresh, the Indian station breakfast chef, who crafted dishes full of comfort and flavor. • Patrick, whose calm and confident energy always put us at ease. • Robert, with his deep hospitality expertise, who arranged two beach dinners that were simply breathtaking. • Cedric, for his thoughtful service at breakfast each morning. • The Egyptian chef at Segala, who served us some of the best seafood we have ever tasted—an experience we will never forget. • Manish, whose cocktails were not just drinks but works of art—each one crafted with care and creativity, making our evenings that much more memorable. • The room service staff, always so friendly, respectful, and attentive, making sure we felt truly cared for even in the quiet moments.

Every day at the InterContinental felt special, whether we were dining, relaxing on the beach, exploring the grounds, enjoying activities, or simply unwinding at the spa. This is not just a hotel—it’s a place where memories are made, and people like us will treasure them forever.

If you’re considering Mauritius, look no further. The InterContinental will take care of you in ways that go beyond expectations. We cannot recommend it...

Beautiful.. Beautiful.. Beautiful ......... Am writing this review a little late, but I want to share details about this beautiful resort with you. My wife and I stayed here from February 17th to February 22nd in a sea-facing room. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Mrs. Sonia from the front desk, who made us feel comfortable after a long journey from India. Although the official check-in time was 12 pm, they kindly allowed us to check in early. The resort is situated by the sea and boasts beautifully constructed rooms along the shore. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay throughout all the days at the hotel. The staff is excellent; at every step and every hour of our stay, they made us feel comfortable with their services. The room service is excellent, and the food they provide is of high quality with a variety of cuisines available for guests. The only issue we encountered was that drinking water was not provided during lunch and dinner, so we had to carry water from our rooms. However, they did provide unlimited water bottles to our rooms without any hassle. The food is very tasty, especially the Indian dishes which we enjoyed every day. In the evenings, there were beautiful singing performances and various Caribbean activities to entertain the guests. The pool is well-maintained and connected to a bar, creating a relaxing environment. Our room was cleaned daily without fail, and all the front desk managers were very helpful and had a welcoming demeanor. We both felt a homely atmosphere during our stay. The people of Mauritius are loving and caring, displaying great hospitality. The international services provided were excellent; we have traveled to many countries and stayed in numerous hotels, but this experience was the best. One suggestion for management: kindly place a board in the dining hall reminding guests not to waste food. We observed that a significant amount of food was being wasted on plates every day, which is precious for many people around the world. It would be beneficial to take some initiative to politely educate all guests about this matter. One additional suggestion for the management: please consider providing floor mats in all the bathrooms of the rooms, as using bath towels for this purpose is not advisable. We plan to return to Mauritius very soon and stay at the Intercontinental again to enjoy the exceptional hospitality. Thank you team intercontinental , Mauritius...

I always start a review with 5 stars, I will try and explain best I can how I got to 2 Firstly I wouldnt let my review put you off Mauritius, the island is lovely and equally the people. This particular hotel however, we just did not have a good experience 1 star was lost with mistakes made by the hotel or the staff, we were just fed up of the incorrect order coming to our tables. If we asked for coffee, we would get tea, if we asked for apple, we would get orange. I have never experienced so many incorrect orders. With that said, the same few were getting it right, but the majority are lacking in many areas. We witnessed the same amongst other guests too. The service was supposed to extend to the beach (which was literally feet from the bar) but it just didnt. Quite often you would find 4 or 5 staff having a chat instead of offering their guests a drink, and if you did go to the bar, you would often find staff looking so upset and miserable. All of this does make me sound lazy, but we have paid for a 5 star hotel, which should come with 5 star service. Another star was lost for cleanliness. We requested on numerous occasions that our UPGRADED room was cleaned, it was riddled with Ants but the maid did the basics but it really needed a fumigate to kill them all off in the hard to reach areas. We did not see the 2 pools cleaned once, on several occasions we witnessed guests doing it themselves. Overall hygiene, I would probably give a 4/10 if you look in the not so common areas The last star is lost for management. We didnt complain, but we spoken about issues to 2 of the managers. Kevin is one of them who seemingly was on side, however he has ignored 2 of my emails now which isnt good, and the other clearly did not want to have the conversation. We were offered a refund on the room upgrade, but we never received this The location is a bit awkward if you like to explore like we do. The hotel wanted to charge us £60 (GBP) for a taxi in to port louis but we managed to call a local firm and got the same journey as a return (there and back) for £20 (GBP). There are taxis outside which they wont advertise obviously. I think wheelchair access will be a massive issue to those that need it so just a heads up with that. A lot will love this hotel, we are fortunate to have travelled quite a lot of the world, so I will end on saying that there are far better for far cheaper.

Just spent 5nights at the Intercontinental on our first visit to Mauritius. The resort was really a mixed bag. The resort and grounds were absolutely beautiful. Very modern, looooads of sunbeds (I'm sure there are more sunbeds than rooms because there were always plenty available), clean private beach (it's rocky, but we had reef shoes so it waa no problem), spacious rooms, good breakfast spread (extra brownie points for daily freshly squeezed beetroot juice). Now for the cons - Food was mediocre. We had the bed and breakfast only, so ended up dining at the pool bar for lunch and tried a couple of resort restaurants for dinner, but the taste and quality was just not upto the 5* mark. To be fair, the prices were comparable to local restaurants outside, however with the Intercontinental brand I would have expected the food to be better. Drinks were equally disappointing. It was like a typical inclusive resort where not a lot of thought needs putting into making drinks because for most it's unlimited. But we were paying for each cocktail and the quality was just poor. Segala (the Mediterranean restaurant) was a disappointment. Noble House (Asian) was much better, and we didn't manage to get a booking at Veda (their indian restaurant). That brings me to my next point - the nightmare of getting a restaurant booking at the resort. Day 1 at the resort we were told Segala was fully booked, but after we complained a table magically became available at 8pm. However, when we were there, we noticed plenty of free tables around. We noticed the same when we walked past Veda only to be told that the restaurant was fully booked. It was quite frustrating really. Fortunately we had a rental car so drove up to Mon Choisy for dinner, but those without a car would be forced to spend 2200pp for the buffet . And the resort is in a very secluded area , so you need a car to be able to get to the nearest high street with restaurants. Overall I would say, if you plan to only spend time at the resort then this place is good, and perhaps you can consider the all inclusive option (the kids club and daily activities schedule was great too). If I were to come back to Mauritius I would consider staying in Grand baie or south, near Blue Bay where you're closer to attractions and restaurants.
