While the staff is nice, the property itself needs a lot of repairs. It is falling apart. The walkways are breaking and cracked, and the pool was dirty, and the jacuzzi was not working. The sheets smell dusty. The floor was dirty. We had a party of 8 , 3 adults and 5 children and we rented a 3 bedroom villa with kitchen. They do provide 2 small bottles of water per room and 3 towels per bathroom, and we had 2 bathrooms. I asked for extra towels since we were 8 people. It is a private beach. No towels are provided for the beach or the pool, and they do not give you extra towels. I had to speak to the manager and explain that we were 8 people staying for 3 days and that 6 towels were not enough. The pool is dangerous for children. The tiles are broken, and they are scummy and dirty and very slippery. The beach is amazing. It is private, and only the hotel guests can get in . It's beautiful and relaxing and they have a bar and restaurant. The bar charged $25 for a pool lounge chair for the beach and $150 for a pool bed. But you get the fee taken off if you order that amount in drinks. Which is nice. The first night we were there the hotel lost all electricity but our villa still had light thank goodness. All of the guests staying in the regular rooms left to new hotels. They brought in a generator for the bar and party area. The office and reception and spa had no power for the entire weekend, so we were not able to try out the spa. During check out we turned in all the tv controls and air-conditioning controls but they wanted a receipt they had given us at check in to return the $50 deposit since the computer was not working again we had to speak to the manager. I will say the air-conditioning worked beautifully brand new units. The security staff was very nice and attentive, and I felt very safe at this property. I love the location. I feel that if they gave it a major update, it would be an amazing place to stay, but as it is, I can not recommend it.

Stayed here for my own wedding... staff was really nice and cleaning girls super nice and friendly. When they saw us they would always asked if we needed anything, coffee, water, towels. The shower worked great and had hot water. My room was nice. Note there is two sections of the hotel. The rooms showed and listed online are of the main side. We had a a bunch of family and friends stay there and were on both of the sides. Rooms on the other side are big and roomy but more outdated. The rooms on main side were smaller with that Mexican deco. This is not a 5 star location. So don’t expect Americanized service or cleanliness. However my family and friends as well as myself did feel safe while staying here and it was quiet away from all the craziness from downtown. I would stay here again if there was a deal otherwise I would rather do an Airbnb. The only complain I had was for the restaurant portion they don’t have enough staff to accommodate for many people eating there. We had breakfast sat and Sunday - large groups of 15, 10 and 8 people all in different tables along with other hotel guest and the staff was overwhelmed they tried their best to serve us all as fast as they could. I felt bad for them. We waited over 45 min to get food. The food and drinks are great tho. Another thing I wanted to mention was that you are able to bring food/snacks/ drinks into the room just not to the beach area . Btw our wedding was amazing! Everything we wanted and more! I would definitely recommend them for weddings.

From the moment we arrived, the staff at Castillos Del Mar made us feel welcome with their kindness, graciousness, and willingness to accommodate our needs. The room was basic, pretty bare bones but it served our purpose. However, the ocean views and sunsets we enjoyed from our room were nothing short of breathtaking, and we slept incredibly well on the comfortable bed. The good-sized smart TV was a nice touch for unwinding at night. I’ll admit, when I saw “free breakfast” advertised, I expected a modest continental spread—maybe yogurt, fruit and a pastry and juice. Instead, what we received was far beyond expectations: hot, freshly prepared and delicious Mexican and American fare, served with amazing service and panoramic open-air ocean views in the restaurant. The coffee was especially delicious—rich, flavorful, and just what we needed to start our mornings right. The only negatives that was our room smelled heavily of bug spray which required that we leave our doors open to air it out for both days we were there. Also, there is a long, steep, three story staircase with staggered hand rails to steady oneself, to get to the restaurant at ocean level. I have mobility issues due to arthritis in my back and knees (and a crippling fear of heights) so that was a challenge, but that's my cross to bare. Not the fault of the hotel. Just a warning that breakfast requires a little light mountain climbing. lol All in all, Castillos Del Mar delivered a stay that was both relaxing and memorable.

Our experience in this hotel will stay unforgettable in a bad way ! By the time that we pay for the room and we did the check in they informed us that breakfast is included in the price and the time that starts but nobody informed us that they are specific options ! So next morning we go to the restaurant and we see a table with some choices of food , many people working there they saw us , they told buen dia but they didn’t ask or tell us nothing more not even the number from our room ! Having already travelled around the world and with experience in many hotels we thought that we take alone food in our plates from the choices in front of us because same some other visitors were doing the same ! After that we put in our plates they informed us that this food is not included in the price of the breakfast that we already paid for ! I would understand that they didn’t have the time to inform us if the restaurant was crowded but we were the third table early in the morning and they had all the time to inform us same in the check in same in the breakfast ! After that it comes the worst part from a rude behaviour of a person working there , by the time that we were trying to communicate and to tell that we don’t have problem to pay but next time to inform ,this person told that speaks English but didn’t and was ironic , not to mention that it became something simple a big scene in front of everybody , something that made us feel really uncomfortable ! We respect that we are in another country vacation but we tried to speak a little bit Spanish , I think though that in the context of tourism that people pay how much they have to pay to have a good time in another place and that it has to be a language common for the better communication of both sides especially when American support so much this place ! Although the place is magical and the rooms were clean with a nice view! It is sad that while there is a base with great prospects, I believe from the owners, it is not being developed because of the bad service ! Last but not least I want to tell that people go vacation to relax and to have a good time not to feel awkward because of a misunderstanding! Extra money to ask for something is okay , but have the right way to tell this with respect ! Hope nobody to experience this , that’s why we tell you our...

This was one of the worst places I have ever had the displeasure of staying at. The pictures are either very old or highly edited. We booked the “Sunio Beach House” which is advertised as accommodating 6 people, but there is only 2 rooms and a couch that does not pull out into a bed. The room smelled of mold as soon as you walked in. The place was literally falling apart. Rotting wood, broken tiles, a rusted refrigerator. The bathrooms were poorly lit and I was scared to even brush my teeth with the tap water because of the foul sewage smell. The shower knobs were crusted with mildew. There was only AC in the rooms. The tv was locked so we could not watch anything. We asked for extra blankets and were told we could only have 1 per room, even though we had one person sleeping in the living room. OH and the small dirty pool is literally in the parking lot. I wish I would have taken pictures of how absolutely awful this place truly was. To top off the terrible experience, we were charged an extra 27 dollars at check out because there was allegedly makeup stains on a bath towel. Bath towels that were extremely old and practically see through. Never in my life have I ever had to pay extra for a dirty towel. This must be how they are still in business, by scamming guests for ridiculous charges. I advise everyone to stay away from this hotel. Please find something better, there are plenty nicer places along the beach. We were charged almost $800 for 2 nights but it truly was not even worth a fourth of that. We hated it so much we ended up leaving well before we were meant to check out. We could not wait to leave that place. I will NEVER return, not even if offered a free week...
