26 february 2021. If visiting palenque look no further. We are a Couple 29 year old from england and we spent 2 nights in private room. Our amigo spent 2 nights in a shared dorm, he loved it. You are IN the jungle and you will know it when you hear the howler monkeys and birds!

Excellent helpful staff. They are kind and give extra towels etc when needed and they can be contacted via whatsapp whilst in ur room. Wifi is great! Really strong. Comfy bed with AC. Hot powerful shower. Fresh clean linens daily. Lovely pool and hammocks decent restaurant on site or just across the road for dinner theres the only actual restaurant which has a live band i recommend mexicana pizza. Ruins only 3km up the road via collectivo. But the absolute star of the show is if you take the colectivo for 20 pesos to palenque town then ask around for the colectivo to ROBERTO BARRIOS waterfalls (50 pesos). Its an hour away but honestly magical the best swimmable cascades / waterfalls ive ever seen. Go early. Spend the whole day. Take water but there are small shops and a quesedilla place on site 30 pesos entry but you can spend the whole day easily. Last colectivo back to palenque town is around 16:30.

Roberto barrios is Family friendly too. Some toilets on site not the best. If you are visiting palenque, kin balam AND roberto barrios are the absolute MUSTS!

The staff at kin balam allowed us to check out a bit late and use communal showers even after checkout as it was so hot and use the communal spaces. Just such a chill space....

Baffling the amount of 5* reviews. The facility itself is nice enough, but the attitude of the staff and the hostel is terrible and sadly money grabbing. Want to leave your bag for a few hours after check out? $90. Want to use the WiFi or toilet after check out? $90. Unheard of! There are also signs everywhere saying you will be charged if you wash your clothes in the wrong sink, or you can't make your food and sit at the wrong table. Gives off a really bad vibe. The restaurant also overcharged us vs the menu price for coffee, wouldn't adjust it when we showed them the menu, and then had the audacity to add a 10% tip on after overcharging us and didn't understand why we didn't want to tip 😂 Bad vibes all round. Recommend staying somewhere else as there are lots of nice places in the area.

Editing my review to one star due to the response below from the venue which is unprofessional and incorrect. The signs at reception clearly state the additional charges are due post checkout, not from 9pm, otherwise we would not have been asked to pay them as we left around 2pm. Several other reviews also mention these charges.. Also we were overcharged in the restaurant, and saying "no you weren't" isn't a defence...

Started off great as facilities were nice and location ideal.. However the staff are rude and especially at breakfast, they are all over the place. Waitress got my order wrong 3 days in a row even though I was pointing at the exact thing on the menu after the first 2 times and making sure she understood me and still on the third day it was wrong so I sent it back. You get everything served to you at separate times and twice I had to remind them about cutlery and milk for my coffee to which they looked annoyed, especially one girl. Normally I wouldn’t care about this but there are 5 of them there and I am paying for the breakfast? Secondly, I left two pairs of shoes outside the room I was staying in after I checked out (I paid for extended services) as I wanted to have a dip in the pool and I was going to grab them after. I had a pair of earrings which meant a lot to me in the shoes and low and behold when I got them back they were missing. One of the workers clearly picked them up but when I tried to explain myself they wouldn’t even listen. Really disappointed as they both looked as if they knew what just happened but tried to shrug me off as fast...

I absolutely loved it here! Everything exceeded my expectations. First off, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. And most were bilingual, which was helpful for me. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were clean. The restaurant was awesome. Everything I ate there was delicious. I HIGHLY recommend the cheeseburger. I know, it's a strange recommendation, but it is the best beef I have ever tasted. The meat by itself was so flavorful and juicy. Didn't really use the pool or hammock area much, but it was very well kept. The campfire area, which is in the edge of the property, was nice and peaceful. The highlight for me was the wildlife. There were Howler monkeys, Agouti, peacocks, toads, and all kinds of birds. I will absolutely be coming back. P.S The ruins are within 3 minutes of the property. And Cascadas de Agua Azul is a very reasonable drive away.

Nice hostel with a pool and hammocks! Lots of really cool nature too, including Howler Monkeys and Leaf Cutter Ants. Staff were really friendly and helpful, including locating my friends towel and helping mend my broken bag. The restaurant was quite expensive and the food wasn't great, and they also charge you to fill up water. The toilets all have inbuilt bidets which is great! The laundry facilities are pretty rubbish, you have to do it yourself, it's just a tap and you have to pay 30 pesos for detergent. The water is cold so you can't really clean anything either. The power went out just as we arrived but this was fixed in a couple of hours. Lastly, they do charge you 90 pesos to use the pool after you've checked out so bear that in mind.
