I've traveled for six years now and have very rarely cared to write reviews before but I've never experienced such arrogant, unprofessional, unfriendly behavior as in El Panchan. I stayed at Jungle Palace and the woman running it seems to hate her job as much as she seem to hate people. It's not really a jungle camp; maybe it was in the past but now there's a big construction site just 30 meters away and it's just as noisy as in the city. Throughout the whole day, every day. There's no kitchen so one is forced to buy all meals in the over-prized restaurant, where you get badly treated day after day, and a mandatory tip is charged with every meal. Sometimes the whole camp smells of human feces. The dirty chemical water from the laundry service is pumped out into the river running through the camp. The owner is rarely seen, but sometimes he comes to yell at the employees. Apparently the camp used to be nice in the past but obviously that era is long gone. Perhaps there are better places to stay in el panchan, but whatever you do stay away from the jungle palace and the hateful woman running it. Rats got into my cabaña and explored the inside of my backpack. One morning there was a huge dead rat on the bathroom floor. I asked the woman of Jungle Palace if I could store my stuff in the lockers for a few days as I was heading off for a hike, and she said it was ok but said my stuff might get eaten by rats in the lockers. When I came back to pick the stuff up she had put a bunch of stuff in front of that locker and was angry over the fact that I had left things in there. I just picked the stuff up and left for another place.||I give El Panchan one star for the atmosphere that the guests managed to create despite the rude and self-righteous staff. Also the nature is beautiful, although ruined by the noise of the huge construction site.||And the old woman serving breakfast from a little kiosk-like shed was actually...

Read moreOk, so I don't deny that when I entered the room I though "I am going to look for another place, right now" ||||It's quite crappy, walls are falling apart and you know.. not a place where I would live. ||||However, I realized that for 200 pesos per night for a private room with a private bathroom, you won't find anything else in Palenque. ||||Also I went to the bar of the área of Panache', that's what the entire place is called, with restaurants and a couple of other lodging (more expensive, of course), I had a meal while working on my laptop, and I had a very good feeling. Service is ok, some waiters are super nice other are a bit less friendly but.. well, food is really good, they always have great music playing, I just had a good feeling.||||So I decided to stay there for my entire trip in Palenque which was about 4 nights. ||||I really had a good time, I was comfortable and I loved the connection with nature. The cabañas are in fact nestled in a think and lush jungle, which is kind of cool. ||||They also cleaned my room and put clean towels every day. (towels are a little messy but clean) ||||What I suggest you is to be careful when you book your tours with the agency located inside the place. I was ripped of with my tour to Flores where they put me on a local bus when I booked a tourist transportation... for the other tours I don't think you will have any problems.. Drivers are just a bit rough! not super friendly but that is fine, once you know. ||||So if you are not too picky and can adapt to uglyness you can really have an...
