I led a retreat at PMR two years ago - I don't know why but my review disappeared. But I think important to share my information. As a retreat leader now for almost two decades, I have quite a lot of experience. And it can be confusing when dealing with resort owners who are indeed also watching their bottom line too and in my opinion feels like it can be a bit of a money grab if you aren't paying attention to all the details.
Troncones is cool and still a bit undiscovered. The beach is beautiful! The resort is old school with palapas and no AC - not terribly private but it's charming. Make sure however you wash your feet before getting into bed! There are little bugs in the sand that like to join you and then bite you at night! This is a great spot for a retreat - but do your due diligence!
My dealings with the owner and front desk staff when I first arrived before my retreat was NOT great. First I had a bag of local mezcal that I bought as gifts for home was confiscated the moment I walked into reception and was told if I did use it I would have to provide the receipt so they could charge me a percentage. I was never told or was this provided in any of the information they sent to me. The owner, Tom, who is fairly notorious throughout the town, holds court in the dining room at the best table in the dining room on his laptop all day - I was never greeted or introduced or thanked once for bringing 25 people to his place, which to me was incredibly rude also a terrible oversight if you want us to come back - and also strange that the owner would never once approach me or my group and welcome us to the resort. This isn't my first rodeo - I've done over 20 retreats and first time the owner has not welcomed my group. Additionally prior to the retreat I received an accidental email not meant for me in which I was called a narcissist for actually just asking questions and trying to understand the meals - which also were not explained properly and why even though I had paid for the entire resort which is a retreat center, I would have to adjust my retreat times to fit into their schedule of yoga classes. The stereo stopped working in the studio the first day - I was told it would be fixed, but it wasn't. Luckily I had brought a small speaker - not the best but better than nothing. (note to always bring one just in case).
Retreat leaders, you know how expensive retreats are and how it all adds up . . . many things are not disclosed, the meals are confusing and they charge for every little thing, so do your homework and ask questions upfront! Also note that when my clients were checking out, they asked for a "tip" for the AC even though they already paid for that up front. And 19% tax on top of everything.
There are also amazing local businesses all around including a market next door on Thursdays. Antonio's new place, Joluma on the edge of town is not to be missed as well as his place in Majahua. You also can't miss the incredible hike that Alejandro from Costa Nativa Ecotours provides - his touring company is across the street from PMR as well as his wife's amazing store. It's an adorable town and the people are so friendly. The beach is gorgeous and the water is swimmable if you are a good swimmer. The undertow is pretty strong.Lastly my cab driver Roberto from Seez Tours (seeztravel9@gmailcom) was instrumental in finding me taxis and tours & restaurants and bringing us back and forth to the airport at a fraction of what the resort was charging us. I cannot say enough the people of Troncones were just so kind and welcoming and helpful!
The owners response will dispute everything I've said but you've heard if here straight from a retreat leader. Just do your research and get everything settled and remember YOU are bringing the people and the money - the resort works for...

wish I could recommend but there are too many things to improve.
The good friendly staff but they need to better explain the packages, breakfast is not included. yoga classes twice a day beautiful landscaping
The bad ZERO PRIVACY. The rooms are open huts with no walls and just woven twigs. While in the bathroom you have people walking by (also no door to room) you can hear every conversation, see everyone and every light on in all rooms and on the grounds. Can’t play music or talk NO SECURITY . No guard. No room lock or keys. No safe. Anyone can walk in off street through open gate and enter at all times bugs. Bugs. You have to sleep under a net. Obviously no air conditioning so super hot the smallest most uncomfortable bed with poor quality sheets (can’t call them linens) restaurant is super expensive but makes a good smoothie. Anyone can eat here so very loud and back to safety and privacy issues. We complained but they say that is the vibe and the ocean draws people can’t swim at beach way to rocky and rough a few hammocks and old tired benches and chairs no beach lounges so not comfortable pool has an algae problem so is often cloudy
Wish the other reviews disclosed this information so hope it helps. Small town but loads of options to stay. Present Moments was not...
