If my wife and I could give this place a 5+ stars we would! We found this hidden gem the last time we visited and looked it up. We decided to try it because it was so remote and we wanted to unplug. It is the only hotel on the non commercial side of the island. It is run on a generator because there is no power to that side(the east side of the island). Miguel, Omar and Manuel were excellent as well as the rest of the staff that we did not get their names but were very friendly and took care of all our needs. We have stayed in other hotels on the other side and for us this does not even compare. With all that said, if you are looking for a 5 star luxury experience this may not be the place for you. If you are looking for a small quaint place with others that are looking for quiet relaxing atmosphere with staff that become like family then this is the place for you! It is an older facility that could use some touch ups but that would not keep us from coming back and being the only place we will now stay when we come back. The food is “delicioso” and breakfast is included if you book through them. We did not rent a car because we wanted to just stay put and relax and it served us well for getting refueled for going back home. Next time we may rent a car to have more options but for us it was not needed this trip. Just some things to know, the air conditioner is only available from 9 pm to 7 am due to running off a generator. This trip we did not even need to turn it on. We kept the doors open to hear the waves crashing outside our balcony and at night would get down to 70 deg and was perfect temp. The views are amazing, the sunrises out your window to wake up, the stars at night are breathtaking, the staff is hardworking and wonderful and we found a “home away from home” here. Met great people and was overall one of the best vacations we have ever experienced. We highly recommend Ventanas Al Mar

We spent 1 week here for our honeymoon (Superior King Room) Our room had amazing views we were able to see the sunrise every morning, no need for phone alarms as the natural sunrise & waves woke us up every morning, FREE breakfast every morning might I add DELICIOUS!!, Wifi is not included in the rooms, but who really needs Wifi all day? We personally spent most of our days on tours and exploring the island. They do however have a WIFI lounge area. The A/C is routinely turned on at 10pm- 6am. The staff are very accommodating and nice! There is a masseuse who you can schedule a massage with for a fee. Dinner was always on point! The chef really knows how to cook, because I am already having withdraws from the food that we ate. You get, " Appetizer, main course and dessert." Most of the time we ate dinner here instead of driving elsewhere. (Last night Omar will remind you to pay your bill for dinner tab you can use a CC.) Remember you are on secluded side of the island. Other options include: COCONUTS right next door and let me tell you they have some amazing food also! Drinks don't let me get you started. There's also a sweet guy named Pedro who sells merchandise next to Ventanas like; Cuban cigars and all types of neat handmade items; Jewelry etc! The CONS: Rooms were not updated, but I really don't care about the looks. Locals have told us repeatedly that this hotel takes the hardest impact during all hurricanes which means they have to always remodel as the losses can be far greater. Air conditioning I wish we could have it turned on sooner!! We hated to wait until 10pm every night to get some cold air as the day was scorching hot. We would usually just go outside to get fresh breeze. Please consider changing the A/C rule! It can be a deal breaker... Overall we enjoyed our stay! We like to get away and that means enjoying the nature. This place definitely delivers!

This is the only hotel on the East side of the island, and as such is quite secluded. We found it necessary to rent a car during our trip as the distance between this hotel and the rest of the island's attractions was too great for repeated taxi trips or bicycles. For U.S. residents, if you do rent a car, be sure to buy insurance online when you book the car, as your auto insurance from the States will not work in Mexico. Booking ahead of time is significantly cheaper than having to do so at the airport. All the rooms have a deck or a porch that open up to the Gulf of Mexico, making sunrises absolutely magnificent. Typically, the winds come in off the water, allowing you to keep the porch door open and get a lovely breeze. Air conditioning is available between 8pm and 8am. The beach is 50 feet away from the hotel, and access is limited to the patrons of the hotel. There's also a pool, if the tides at the beach are too much for you. Breakfast is included. It typically includes options such as huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, omlettes, or scrambled eggs, as well as a light parfait and all the coffee you can drink. Also, happy hour is between 5 - 6pm, and typically is a 2 for 1 deal. There's no television, but if you really do need to check in with reality, there's WiFi included. We were able to access the WiFi from our room, but other guests weren't as lucky. It depends on where your room is located and the proximity to the routers. Power during the day is mostly reliable and they run a generator at night. The staff is extremely helpful and polite. They helped us make arrangements for scuba diving, as well as offering insights into other locations to visit.

Overall, this was an experience we will never forget. Let's be clear, this place is REMOTE! We stayed here for one night in November 2021 and we were coming from a newly built all-inclusive resort in Adventure Riviera Maya. It was definitely the opposite of our previous stay, and we didn't understand how remote this was about to be. There was only wifi in a small area in the lobby, the AC only works during the nights because the entire place runs on a generator, there are no ATMs to withdraw cash, nor are there cell towers for making phone calls, and there were little gnats everywhere around the doors and windows just trying to get in. The rooms were not plush at all and could probably use some updating, but the location, experience, and service were all 5 stars. While this may sound like a major negative, the remoteness actually ended up being one of the biggest positives and is partly why I'm rating this place 5 stars. I seriously can't wait to go back again now that we actually know what to expect.

Despite the natural elements and seclusion, this BNB has managed to create a really special and unique experience. Seeing the stars SO clearly at night, and falling asleep listening to the relaxing sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks was serene. It is a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

The meals cooked at the restaurant were some of the freshest I've ever had. The fish I ate for dinner was caught only a few hours earlier. We really enjoyed our breakfast on the patio overlooking the water. Everything was delicious and very fairly priced.

There is a cute little heart-shaped pool that we did not get into, but we did go a bit down the beach and floated out in the water for a while. It was peaceful.

Next door is a restaurant and bar called Coconuts with lots of parrots which was also a lot of fun. Be aware, that Coconuts only accepts cash and all of their drinks are quite strong. We learned this all at once and couldn't pay our tab. So our silly drunken selves had to go back to ask the host at Ventanas Al Mar to call us a cab. We got the friendliest cab driver ever who told us facts about Cozumel and joked with us as he took us back into town so we could get cash. Then he waited and brought us back so we could pay our bill at Coconuts. We felt so silly, but everyone was so friendly and understanding about it. It definitely has made for a fun story.

Other than Coconuts, there really isn't anything else for miles so be sure to bring a book, enjoy a long walk down the beaches, and then ask your host to call a cab whenever you're ready to adventure back to civilization for a while. But mostly, be sure to enjoy the disconnect and remember to take in the stars at night. It's...
