Tourist, don't give your money to a guy who seems to loathe Americans and deliberately doubled the price after lying to us about accepting credit cards. Cozumeleños are awesome. This guy has every right to dislike us when we treat them like garbage as foreign policy and scapegoats as national policy. I think tourist taxes are fair, but doubling prices? Deliberately lying to and intimidating us?

Here's the great news: like I said, Cozumeleños are amazing and gracious; you'll find tons of them as lovely as the lovely Americans, even tourists, even cruise tourists, who exist in the world. Go eat at their restaurants and have a blast and tip like you're apologizing for razor wire in the Rio Grande and the CIA. Enjoy!

Turista, no malgastes tu dinero en el negocio de una persona quien odia a los turistas. No es que no comprendo--soy de una ciudad turística y familia bien pobre, y de verdad entiendo que los turistas pueden malgastar la paciencia de los que viven sus vidas dificiles en un lugar donde se pasan las vacaciones de los ricos. Y sé que los estadounidenses hemos maltratado a los mexicanos por siglos. No entiendo a veces como nos pueden soportar los mexicanos, en serio.

Pero mis amigos y yo somos tan, pero TAN respetuosos porque entendemos lo que somos y el peso de nuestra historia. Mas que nada nos encanta dar propinas como algo asi de acción de gracias y disculpa (y por que los cuatro hemos trabajado como meseros y en hoteles de jóvenes).

Pero no vamos a dar una propina cuando el gerente nos cobra $70 USD por un plato de fajitas, un guacamole, una margarita, una Sprite, y unas cuatro botellas de agua mineral mexicano. Y eso no fue lo peor.

Le preguntamos, al sentarnos, si aceptaba tarjetas de crédito. Dijo que sí.

Cuando pedí las cuatro botellas de agua mineral en el bar, me dijo el cantinero que estaban a $8 USD en total. El que que trabajaba ahí acababa de preguntarme como había aprendido el castellano cuando vino el jefe, suponiendo que yo no le entendía aunque le había hablado tres veces en el castellano. ¿Será que lo hablé mal? Pero me acababa de decir el otro que yo dominaba la lengua...así que ¿que miercoles, guey? Preguntó al cantinero cuanto me cobraba, le repetió $8 USD, el gerente dijo que lo subiera, y me cobró $16 USD el tablero avergonzado.

Al pagar el cuento, nos dijo que no aceptaba tarjetas de crédito y demandó pago en efectivo. Teníamos entre nosotros $73 USD en efectivo. Nos demandó propina por su como si fueramos nosotros los que engañaban a él. 'Tamadre.

Mi hermana y yo muchas veces no teníamos casi nada de comer de niñas, y nos encanta dar propinas ahora que tenemos cómo, porque es la manera mas fácil de ayudar a los seres humanos no muy respetados por la sociedad quienes mas se merecen nuestro apoyo. En el barco mi hermana le dío $150 USD de propina al que limpió nuestro cuarto de precio $650 por seis noches.

Le dimos $3 USD a este hombre quien, aunque entiendo que con razón, nos trataba como personas quienes no nos merecíamos respeto. Y seguramente se dijo él que asi, de no saber como dar propinas, son estos malcriados estadounidenses. No había COMO darle propina buena y menos mal, porque como nos daríamos a nosostros mismos la dignidad y dar propina al quien demostraba claramente que no nos podía soportar.

Soy persona honesta. Hay que decir que la comida es riquísima. Sabe a cenizas en un medioambiente de prejuicio. Pero si cocinas asi para personas quienes odias tanto, eres de verdad maestro de cocina. Te felicito.

Los Cozumeleños, como todos, contienen seres humanos de buena voluntad y otros que se han rendido a la amargura. No nos rendimos a tales, y no les demos nuestro dinero y sentido de paz.

Como dije, comprendo. Yo de él estaría pero HARTO de los turístas. Pero no te deprimas conociendo a este lugar cuando los Cozumeleños son tan buena gente con una cultura hermosa, importante, hístorica, fuerte, única, y valiosa. ❤️❤️❤️

A Long-standing Cozumel Staple The first time I was in Cozumel I was 8/9...it was also the first time eating fish and it was here at Chen Rios. Over the 20+ years since, I've been back to Cozumel 4-5 times, and each time I come back for nostalgia AND great food on a beautiful beach (swimming, surfing, boarding). This last trip, I was so excited to take my partner here and share my nostalgic feeling with her. Friends, the meal was solid AF, and did not let me down or leave me anything but full and happy. Guac, pico, pescado Frito for 2, and of course XX's. While sargassum has devistated the east coastline, do not let it dissuade you from coming here. The sand is still the best on the island, and you can share the story with the world on how we need IMMEDIATE ACTION to help solve the largest scale, anthropogenic changes the world is...

Food is average at best, location has a distinct sewerage smell and the staff blatantly rip you off. Tacos, fries, a coke, two waters and a coconut…….$70. Daylight robbery. Waiter then had the cheek to say tip was not included lol. Avoid. My wife ordered a fresh coconut drink but it looked very iffy to me, like it was second hand and refilled.

It’s not even a great spot, yes the beach and sea are nice but the beach is teaming with litter, plastic bottles everywhere. I asked the waiter if they had been hit by the recent hurricane, kind of hoping that would allow for and possibly excuse the rubbish on the beach but he explained the last hurricane to hit directly was 70 years ago. Maybe they haven’t got round to...
