Holiday Inn Monterrey Norte by IHG — Hotel in Nuevo León

I stayed a week on business. Upon check in to my King executive room, my room key did not work, had to go back down stairs with my luggage in the hall way to get a new key. The gal at the desk said the key was fine, reprogrammed it and then sent me back up to my room with a bell hop. Every day after for three straight days, my room key failed. My travel companions tried it as well, so it wasn't just me. Each morning they promised me a new room upon my return, each evening they did not have another comparable room available. Finally on the fourth day, I was assigned a different room that was not comparable with the reservation price I was paying. The room was shabby with crumbling plaster on the floor, and unfinished closet and carpet, but at least I could get in the door. The front desk folks did not seem to care much about my dissatisfaction or comfort. I stay at Holiday inns pretty often when I travel, and I have to say this was the worst experience I have ever had. The room was clean and the bed was nice to sleep on. The staff were also very courteous. I hope for 3 improvements in the future. 1) More soundproofing. It was easy to hear conversations going in the hallway and when there were noisy people in the hallway at night, it was hard to sleep. 2) Don't change the fee structure for amenities partway through the stay. One of the days they started to ask to pay for tennis balls even though they were provided for free before that. 3) Keep pins out of the laundry. I would receive my laundry with pins still in the clothes as well as papers with my room number attached to the labels of the clothes. The WIFI login was incompatible with anything above Android Jellybean and the staff had no workaround for this. The only way I could get my tablet and phone online was to run hotspot software on my laptop to get around the login screen. My tub drain was stopped up and this was fixed by the second night of my stay. The door latch became misaligned and would not lock. This was quickly fixed after I called the front desk. There is a generally musty smell about the whole place that was troubling. If I had another choice in the area I would take it.
