I hate writing a bad review for a small business as I know it's not easy. However, I regret to say our experience here was very disappointing, and there are many simple things that could have been made better rather easily.
If this were an 50-buck a night hostel, my review would have been a complete different story. But for it to be a hotel and charges guests 150 dollars a night, here's what we found disturbing:
The toilet and sink in our room were out of water twice during our 2-night stay. The manager excused by saying that this is a problem for the whole city. We knew that water shortage was a problem, but having stayed in five different accommodations in Puerto, this was the only place that did not have a running toilet.
When we did get the water back, it was running in dark brown;
Shower curtain was moldy;
Pillow fillings were moldy, so we ended up sleeping on our folded clothes;
Ceiling fan was loose. When we turned it on it was very wobbly and noisy so we couldn't use it;
Bed sheet was torn;
The hotel left a WhatsApp number for contact when the front desk was closed. When our toilet was out of water in the early morning, we messaged the number about the issue and did not get any response. (They did eventually fix the problem during the day when we were gone.)
However, the staff was being helpful in the end and acknowledged the inconvenience we were caused. They offered a discount (about 15%) for our stay, which made my review a 2-star instead of 1.
It was a pity that there were many small things that could have made a difference with an easy fix (shower curtain, bed sheet, ceiling fan). I truly hope that the hotel will be able to improve these things. Otherwise for 150 bucks, Puerto has much much...
Read moreThis hotel was probably the worst value for money that I’ve had in a long time. The location is just okay, the pool looks and feels like it hasn’t been cleaned in a decode, the rooftop looks like someone haphazardly threw things up there and scattered them around to use but nothing really goes together and our room was pretty gross. The sheets on the bed were supposed to be white, we didn’t have any sort of a blanket on top of them but the room next door did which might have made the room look less dirty. The sink would leak when you turn it on but from the pipe below out onto your feet. We woke up with the mother of all cockroaches above us in our room (pictured) and some of her children scurrying about. The internet was okay. It didn’t work from our room but if you were on the roof and could connect to the right one it was okay for remote working but i wouldn’t recommend trying. The pictures are NOTHING like what you’re getting. The only plus is that the AC worked and there was decent water pressure. Would not recommend, especially for...
Read moreThe perfect hostel for our stay in Puerto Escondido. More of a hostel than a hotel which suited us perfectly. All of the accommodation was private rooms, with shared kitchen facilities. The room was spacious, with an en-suite, balcony and air conditioning. I loved the pool and the rooftop area with hammocks, chairs, and an area with yoga mats to practice on as you please. The hostel had a chilled vibe, with people drinking and chatting in the pool at times but not in a party hostel kind of way. The hostel was kind enough to look after our bags on check out day and let us use the facilities whilst we waited for our night bus which was very kind. The only issue we had was with the noise from some early rising roosters that hung out on the road adjacent to our balcony but nothing enough to dampen our...
