Dishonest or Miscommunication?
We just left the hotel, extremely angry. First, I do want to say that the hospitality is great. The place seems to be a family business and everyone works hard to keep things running. However, it’s important to separate the quality of the lodging and food vs how nice or kind people may be.
The rooms are threadbare at best. The door to the bathroom is a plastic sheet, the water in the small (we are talking about smaller than a Japanese toilet in Tokyo) sink trickles, it does not run. The shower is a wet room with a plastic sheet at the bottom that does a poor job as a water barrier. Water also just trickers and you need to wait at least 10 mins to get hot water. After a shower, water is everywhere, so make sure you bring slippers to wear. The heater vent does not swing and there is warmth only by the door, no where else in the room. We had dinner at their restaurant and the lamb and beef were both chewy and rubbery. These are all things that we can deal with given that the people seemed nice.
The one thing we could not deal with is the trickery with laundry. We were on our way to Marrakesh from the desert and really needed to have some laundry done. When we got it back the next morning, the laundry was wet and smelly. The man at the breakfast counter took our money and claimed he did not know anything about it. He was not willing to give the money back. If they could not do the wash and dry, they should have just told us instead of pretending that they could. Perhaps this is the norm and they did not make it clear that they just wet your clothes with no detergent or soap and give it back to you? We now have a bag of wet laundry (in the middle of winter) and will need to have it re-washed in Marrakesh.
We’ve had a great trip so far with wonderful Moroccan hospitality. Unfortunately this hotel gives...
