Gîte Elmenzeh — Hotel in Moulay Idriss Zerhoun

When my husband & I decided on a weekend getaway to Meknes, I contacted Meknes' 2 flashiest & most expensive riads as well as the Riad Filalia - the new kid on the block. Of the 3, the Filalia was the only one to return my email and, at several hundred dirhams a night less than its competitors, we're glad they did. A family-run riad, its four rooms are tastefully decorated and provided a cool oasis from Meknes' 40 degree heat wave. Located just steps off of the Place el-Heddim, you feel like you're off the beaten path but within a stone's throw of everything. The owner, his wife and their staff were gracious and helpful but mindful of our privacy. Breakfast was included and although simple - Moroccan bread, jam, eggs and tea/coffee - was served in the riad's gorgeous atrium. We both highly recommend this...

A really nice small Riad located in perfect place in Medina, close to everything. We had a suite with bedroom, sitting room, hall and bathroom of course, a little special because the Riad was 120 years old. Owner and his family were very nice too, helpfully. We could not find to Riad so we had to call and the ||owner came to fetch us and show us also, where we can park free without problems. Upon arriving at the Rad we were invited to Berber whiskey and coffee. We ate dinner there too and we could decide what we want to eat. The ||breakfast was really good also so everything was just perfect. The only thing I ||lacked was the coat hanger and in the bathroom was nothing I could hang towels etc. But it did not matter much anyway. I can only recommend this nice...

Il Riad Filalia è ottimamente posizionato nel cuore della Medina e gestito da una famiglia di persone deliziose, gentilissime e sempre disponibili, così come il suo proprietario.||La struttura è una antica abitazione del 1500, decorata con rivestimenti di legno di cedro davvero incantevoli e un patio centrale che ti aspetti solo le grandi abitazioni signorili.||||Queste ottime premesse rendono piuttosto deludente, però, l'impatto con le camere, polverosette e con i bagni in uno stato discutibile (sia per struttura: intonaco gonfio per l'umidità, tavoletta del wc scrostata dello smalto in alcuni punti e con legno interno a vista, rubinetti non fissati e in alcune camere gocciolanti; che per la pulizia). Non sono da considerare sporchi, ma per 45€ a notte mi aspetto che la cassetta del wc e il ripiano del lavandino non abbiano polvere o capelli sopra. Altra nota dolente è l'eccessiva presenza di tappeti. Ok siamo in Marocco, ma un tappeto unico che copre l'intero pavimento della camera dovrebbe prevedere, quantomeno, la dotazione del personale di un buon aspirapolvere, che naturalmente non c'è, con le conseguenze che potete aspettarvi.||||Colazione senza lode nè infamia, caffè, latte, burro, marmellata, pane francese e arabo più un uovo fritto nella tajine. ||||Le camere non sono dotate di possibilità di chiusura, nè dall'interno, nè dall'esterno, si possono solo chiudere le imposte, ma non ci sono chiavi o altri sistemi. Anche se c'è un chiavistello è inutilizzabile per il non allineamento delle assi della porta.||La camera non viene sistemata per tutto il periodo del soggiorno.||Questi due ultimi dettagli sono da considerarsi diretta conseguenza del fatto che si sta "in famiglia" e non in un hotel (almeno così ce lo hanno giustificato)...allora, però, anche il prezzo dovrebbe essere inferiore e non uguale a quello di un hotel se il trattamento è diverso...||||Le foto presenti sul loro sito sono certamente risalenti al momento dell'apertura (cinque anni fa) e non corrispondono, purtroppo, alla verità. ||||Insomma un vero peccato, perchè il posto ha delle potenzialità incredibili se solo fosse "amministrato"...
