Unfortunately my three night stay was in the middle of the transition period of the hotel reflagging to the Hilton brand. The hotel should not have been charging the full rate while refurbishment was ongoing as the rooms were in a poor state as were some public areas of the hotel||||My first impression of the hotel on arrival was positive as the lobby area was fine and the girl who checked us in (Ei Ei?) was exceptional as she also assisted me with other aspects of my visit to Mandalay.||||My room wasn’t ready and I was provided with a temporary room which was actually very good. It was spacious, had a great view of the palace and I would have been content staying here for the duration of my visit......until the drilling started!||||Thankfully my designated room became available and despite again having a great view of the palace, some aspects of it were grim - particularly the bathroom.||||Finding a roach on the bedroom floor didn’t inspire confidence in the hygiene of the place either.||||The furniture was old, soundproofing was poor and the doors to the balcony had seen better days and certainly didn’t dampen the traffic noise or the ridiculous music that blasted out from the street below at 5am!||||The biggest disappointment however was the executive lounge offerings - probably the worst I have ever encountered in any hotel.||||The wine was poor and the food was dire.||||The only food on offer was provided on a cake stand by the staff - take it or leave it. There weren’t even any sweet offerings such as cakes or sweet pastries which is usually standard for an exec lounge. ||||Was this a temporary ‘service’ or the standard food that this hotel provides to their exec room guests? If it was short term, then my rate should have reflected the limited offerings.||||The pool area was fine, however, the elevator in the wing my room was located turned out to be a converted service lift shared by staff and guests, however, clearly, it was certificated and refurbished (sort of) to accommodate guests.||||Hilton should have charged a discounted rate due to the condition of the hotel or even closed it down, but they seemed content to mug their guest while not providing what they advertise.||||I’m sure this hotel will come up to scratch one the refurbishment is complete, but I just felt short changed after this disappointing stay.||||Thankfully the staff that are a credit to the hotel, made up for some of the...
Read moreCurrently staying here. The staff at the lobby was extremely inefficient. We got here at 2.45pm with advance booking and our rooms weren't ready. The check-in time apparently was 3pm, which is late-ish compared to other hotels. But every place has its rules and so be it.
Here's what really ticked me off:
One staff member took 15 minutes to figure out our rooms weren't ready. I don't know what they were typing away in their computers for the entire duration.
We were travelling for business and started working in the lobby. They took exactly 58 minutes to get an extension. And that, with two reminders in the middle. We were told that required the approval of the general manager of the hotel. You've gotta be kidding.
Also when I went back at about the 50 minutes mark for the second reminder, the same staff said the extension could potentially disturb other guests. The entire lobby was empty except for three other guests sitting down at a corner and we were sitting quite close to the power outlet (but not close enough to get the laptops charged directly). There is absolutely no chance of anyone tripping over the wires, if that's the concern.
To be fair, it was one single staff with really bad attitude, and her colleague apologised on her behalf. But seriously, this experience is more like walking into a cooperative store in the Socialist era in the 1960s Burma than a Hilton. Ridiculous. I'm staying put only because I've already booked for a few days. Please consider investing more training...
Read moreWe have just finished our 4 day stay in Mandalay and stayed at the Hilton for 3 nights. It was the most amazing experience staying here. First of all I would like to thank the staff for all being so friendly and helpful. They have made our stay unforgettable. The Resort itself has just been stylishly updated and looks new and is in the best location with incredible views over the Moat all the way up to Mandalay hill. The pool area is an excellent spot to relax and unwind with a large spa and a huge pool to cool down in. We had breakfast in the restaurant and the food was all delicious with a huge offering of tasty food. A large selection of baked goods along with having fresh omelettes or eggs cooked for you on the spot. We also ate at the Moat restaurant for 2 evenings and the food was excellent. The room I stayed in was on the 4th floor over looking the Moat and Fortress Walls of the old Citadel. You could look all the way up to the top of Mandalay hill which I recommend doing a sunrise walk to. The bedroom and bathroom were a great size and the bed was super comfortable. We were lucky to have access to the Executive Lounge every evening which was fantastic to have a few drinks and some snacks before heading off to dinner. We would like to personally thank Eilyas the assistant front office manager who made us feel so welcome and comfortable during our stay in this beautiful location. #LetsGuide #hilton #myanmar...
