We stayed at Tiger One Hotel for two nights and had a reasonable stay.|The hotel is located reasonably central although walking anywhere in Mandalay more than half a mile; I found long, hot and hard going.|The hotel was quite dated and our double room was quite cramped and basic. It however provides a comfortable bed, AC, a fridge and basic bathroom. We did however have some ants in the room around the headboard.|The complimentary breakfast was ok - however I was expecting better from the reviews I read. There was lots of options and variety and it changed everyday which was impressive for a complimentary breakfast. However the quality wasn’t always great, especially in regards to continental items.|The local area was vibrant and exciting with lots of markets and local restaurants.|You are also sure to meet a man named Starsky outside the hotel. His family run a little stall outside the front. He speaks very good English and in a very unobtrusive and polite way he offered us his taxi services before leaving us in the peace to find our own feet and a local restaurant. The day after we went back to Starsky and accepted his offer of taxi services. For 40 USD he personally toured us around the city in his nephews car (with his nephew driving). From 0900-2000 he took us around countless sights of interest, temples, pagodas, to a lunch venue of our choice, to Amarapura and then to a evening restaurant of our choice for sunset. He was trustworthy, wasn’t pushy and didn’t try to force any recommendations on us. He was respectful and also accepted and invited any questions we had about Mandalay, Myanmar, his people and society.|He also took us to the airport the next day via monastery we had wanted to go to for nominal fee. He and his nephew made our trip to Myanmar and to get a locals perspective was invaluable.|If you tour with him do me a favour and say “Hi from Dan and Emma from England...
Read moreMy lovely wife and I spent four nights at this hotel when visiting Mandalay and the surrounding area. Our deluxe room was spacious, comfortable and good value at around US$30 per night. If you're on a budget they also have smaller, cheaper rooms.||||The bed was comfy and the linen crisp & clean. There was plenty of very hot water. In fact, it was so hot you need to be careful not to burn yourself! The shower wasn't great but there was a bath tub which we used instead. It was nice to have a good soak for a change! The WiFi and air conditioning both worked well. The only disappointment was breakfast, which was pretty poor especially for vegetarians. But that isn't unusual in Myanmar.||||If you like street food there are some great places to eat near the hotel. Try the little barbecue place just around the corner or visit the nearby night market on 34th street between 75th and 77th. Two people can get a great meal at one of these places for less than K5,000.||||The hotel booked us a minibus to Kalaw. We were picked up at 730, spent an hour and a half driving around town picking up passengers & parcels before arriving at the bus station at 900. We then spent 30 minutes sitting there. After another 30 minutes or so inexplicably trawling around town we were finally on our way around 1000. Awful service and totally overpriced at K16,500 each. You can get a luxury bus for around the same price and this really wasn't a luxurious ride. I'm sure the local passengers paid a fraction of what we did. Finally, to add insult to injury, they decided to dump us unceremoniously by the roadside somewhere on the edge of town with no hope of finding any transport to our hotel 2km away.|So annoying!|||In summary, I'd recommend staying at this hotel but would strongly suggest you organise onward transportation...
Read moreAlthough our room was basic, for a budget hotel, the staff, service, went beyond our expectations. The breakfast buffet is the best we've had: full of local food. Bikes are free to rent. Wi-fi works although a bit slow. TV in room is OK and has international movies. Aircon was a bit difficult to work out. Staff is TOP NOTCH, very pro, friendly, so welcoming, so useful. We had to leave at 3h30AM to take the train to see the viaduct, they prepared a breakfast package for us (fruits, sandwiches, boiled egg, for each person!). Another day we left at the same time, to see the Mahamuni pagoda ceremony, they wanted to give us the same package, but we couldnt accept it as we planned to come back to sleep again.
Will def come back again if i'm ever in Mandalay. Thank you for...
