We had a really wonderful stay at the Golden Empress Hotel. There are so many great things about the Golden Empress. We loved the decor in the rooms (beautiful wooden decorated bed with a huge mosquito net) and shared areas (antiques in the entry hall and dining space). ||All the staff were super friendly and really helpful! They told us lots of information about the area, the local festival and Myanmar in general. Kyaw in reception was wonderful (he speaks excellent English) - we were able to book a lake boat trip, a driver to visit local sites and transfer to the airport and get our washing done. I think the driver's name was Goong and he was so friendly and it was really wonderful to talk with him (he also speaks excellent English). We learnt so much! We received really excellent service - they made everything easy.||The breakfast (included in the room price) is excellent. I had the banana, chocolate pancake every day. Other options are eggs and omelettes and there's also lots of fresh fruit (changes each day), toast, tea, coffee and fruit juice. All served on an elegant old English tea set. Also we really appreciated the free cold bottled water available in reception.||The rooms have air con, tea/coffee making facilities, and toiletries in the bathroom. Note - some of the bathrooms are wet rooms, so when you have a shower, it does get a bit wet, but it does dry quickly. Our room had a balcony area and it was really wonderful to sit outside and enjoy the shade. ||The hotel is in a great location and handy to the markets and restaurants. We were lucky enough to be in Nyaungshwe for the Phaung Daw-Oo Pagoda festival and the procession came right past the Golden Empress Hotel. It was little noisy at night over the festival period, but that didn't matter at all.||The hotel is well priced and a great place to stay. The team really exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend...
Read moreStayed at Golden Empress Nyaungshwe for 3 nights and had such an enjoyable stay. |From check in and throughout our time at this small family run hotel all staff were so helpful and friendly, they couldn’t do enough to make our stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. ||Nyaungshwe itself is a small town, everything is within walking distance so there are ample restaurants and shops very nearby to the hotel. It’s also very close to Inle Lake for tours. The hotel runs a tour for a reasonable price but we did our tour with a local guide. The hotel also helped us with a bus reservation to our next destination and can help with other travel needs. ||Rooms here were nice, large comfortable beds, good pillows, effective air con and a bath tub and over shower with (very) hot water. A shower curtain would be a good idea though and a floor mat as the bathroom floor did get very slippy when wet. No fridge in the room but the one in reception was available to use. Furnishings were all dark wood but of good quality and everywhere was always spotlessly clean. Hot drinks and bottled water were available at all times. ||Breakfast was great for Myanmar, our best yet. Fresh eggs any style with toast or chocolate / banana pancakes, or both if you wanted. Plus fresh fruit, hot drinks and juice. ||One thing to note, the times without electricity all over Nyaungshwe, 6am-9am, 2pm-5pm and 9pm-midnight. Some places have backup generators but most do not so plan your time (especially evening meals) accordingly. Not sure if this is seasonal. ||I can’t recommend this place enough and would stay here again...
Read moreA beautiful and warm hearted hotel with soul and kind owners! The owners of the hotel were very sweet and thoughtful. They upgraded our room for free and even allow us to check out late till our night bus as it was the low peak season and they have capacity. The yummy breakfast consisting of local mangoes and papaya as well as eggs and toast were a homely touch! The room was very spacious and had a classic touch to it, and it look and feel more comfortable in real life than in the photos! Best of all is the hotel's location, it is centrally located to everywhere we needed to go. Just 5 minutes away from the jetty that brings you to Inle Lake, and a few minutes walk to the best food Sin Yaw Restaurant. We needed some ice for our sore legs after the hike and the owner always bring them happily and generously. When we were leaving for the JJ Express Bus to Bagan (just 5 minutes walk away from the bus stop), the owners came out and send us off. The hotel is everything you could ask for, from the warmness and hospitality to...
