It’s really a pleasant destination for couples, filling with lushly colorful gardens in the background of green hills and mountains. We stayed at Acorn building which is the oldest one in the hotel compound 19 May 2024 as our second anniversary. The staffs were really helpful and competent with 5 star service atmosphere. However we encountered a senior staff or coperate manager (she check in the hotel late at night) who was verbally rude and abusive behavior towards hotel staffs in front of the guests. We really disgusted that senior staff was working as unethical way to her junior staffs. The worst yet is that she really didn’t care making THE offensive scene during witnessing the guests. I understand she managing the hotel seems like from Yangon or Singapore, yet her managing behavior was uncivilized and we really pity the hotel staffs who have to work under that kind of boss and environment but they still manage to perform the best service. Read moreThe hotel exudes colonial era charm. The building with its black & white facade was very well preserved. The decor and even choice of teapot were also in line with the theme. The rooms in Tudor block were spacious and clean (they should bleach their towels to get rid of the stains though), but the WiFi strength seemed to drop drastically as the room got further away from the staircase. The restaurant had a good selection of Burmese & Shan dishes, and 3 of the dishes that I tried were excellent: Shan style aromatic chicken, tea leaf chicken curry, and fried chives with pork. The bar had a nice ambience and a wide selection of alcohol & cocktails, but they couldn't make me a negroni as they ran out of campari. Breakfast was good too, with a decent selection of cooked options and solid coffee (I could expect no less in Kalaw), though they took a while to serve the eggs...
