Lin Thar Oo - Lodge — Hotel in Thandwe District

I stayed here for 10 days at the end of my trip to Myanmar. ||||Before I arrived I had requested one of the rooms upstairs for safety reasons, as a lone female tourist I preferred not to have a downstairs room directly on the sand. This turned out to be a good call, as the hotel is primarily catering to Chinese rather than Western tourists. They come in large waves and are all over the place but only seemed to stay for a couple of days each time (be aware you will hear a lot of hoiking and spitting). ||||My room was lovely, with a large bathroom and a really lovely veranda. It was great to sit and watch the sunset with a beer every day and for coffee on my balcony. ||||Also be aware this is not a Western style hotel (as most are on Ngapali) and is priced accordingly - if you want to be 100% Western, I'd recommend the hotel next door, which also does very good food. ||||When I arrived I had put in quite a large load of laundry. Unfortunately when it was returned by the manager one of my dresses (worth around 100 USD) had been completely ruined by being ironed two hot, and was in shreds. When I asked what would be done about this in terms of compensation, the manager stood there unable to answer with any solution, so I had to suggest we spoke again in the morning. ||||The following morning at breakfast, he offered me a replacement 'local dress' which I had to turn down as I would need to replace the dress in the UK, to go with my various outfits. We settled that they would refund me one night to compensate me, which I was happy with. ||||I have two other drawbacks that people should be aware of: ||||- I really could not stomach the breakfast. There was only a choice of toast / margarine (I don't think for 100 USD a night it should be anything other than butter) that I would eat. Eggs were cold in the warmer and not cooked properly on top. By the end of my stay I basically stopped eating at breakfast as I also really don't like the sweet, US style bread that is served (nor do I eat margarine).||||- Wifi is extremely unreliable and limited. Again I think this can and should be easily sorted out by putting in more routers, as other hotels are able to do. It only works intermittently in the area around reception and I had to ask frequently for the router to be rebooted. ||||Overall if I was going back to Ngapali, I'm afraid I wouldn't choose to return to this hotel again. Yes it is right on the beach but I think there are better options probably close by for not too...

6 years in a row we have come to stay here . Thats how much we love it . The bungalows on the beach for the price they charge is THE best Value on the beach . Each year we have seen improvements so always nice to see the small guys trying to do better . The staff are all super lovely . Please remember this is not the Hilton you are staying at but the staff always smile and endeavour to do their best . Using key words and a smile are simple tools for communication . The bar is well stocked with a good assortment of cocktails and the stuffed squid and Prawn coconut curry we ate 3 days in a row it was so amazing ! It can have to the odd noisey night with people out enjoying their hoilday so a simple fix I find ( and handy for all parts of the world ) is to have a set of ear plugs ready just incase . Von dieser Anlage kann ich nur abraten! Bungalows direkt am Meer, ja, aber wir hatten eine riesige Horde an Burmesen (Militärs, wie sich später rausstellte), die diese Anlage eingenommen hat. Früh morgens um 5/6h wurde ohne Ende Krach gemacht, viel Whiskey getrunken und kein bisschen Rücksicht genommen. Alle nicht burmesischen Gäste redeten mit der Managerin, wegen dem unsäglichen Verhalten, doch diese fühlte sich für nichts zuständig. Ihr Hauptargument war immer wieder, da kann sie nichts dafür, da kann sie nichts ändern, das sind zwar ihre Gäste, jedoch kann sie darauf keinen Einfluss nehmen. Wir fanden alle: Doch, das kann sie!!! Wir waren alle Backpacking-Touristen, entspannt und tolerant, doch, was in dieser Anlage sich abgespielt hat, geht so garnicht, vorallem nicht für 110$ die Nacht. Der Höhepunkt war dann der letzte Abend der großen Truppe (Reisebusladung), wo Alkohol ohne Ende floss, die Männer nackt, nur in Longyis bekleidet, auf den Tischen tanzten und gröhlten und wahnsinnig laut sangen. Da ich mit meiner kleinen Tochter unterwegs war, fragte ich dann um 22h an der Rezeption mal vorsichtig an, wie lange das wohl noch gehen würde. Als plötzlich der Schlimmste passierte auf all meinen Asienreisen. Vollkommen betrunkene, aggressive, burmesische Männer, 5 Stück, rannten auf mich zu, Arme drohend nach oben gerissen und beschimpften mich aufs übelste und einer drohte mir mit dem Tod. Und das alles vor meiner kleinen Tochter! Da reist man durch Halb-Asien, ist das dritte Mal in Burma und dann passiert diese unglaubliche Situation. Ich hatte sehr viel Angst! Um es abzukürzen: Ich bekam dann ein Security-Typ vor meinen Bungalow gestellt, damit mir nichts passiert.... Am nächsten Morgen fühlte sich die Managerin wieder für nichts zuständig, sondern meinte nur, sie kann nichts dafür, dass die riesige Truppe soviel Alkohol trinken würde und die Gruppe war ja wohl auch nicht angemeldet und und und.... Kein Entschuldigung, keine Einsicht, nichts!!! Andere Backpacker erzählten mir, ein paar Betrunkene hätten sich vor Ihrem Bungalow übergeben und auch ihre Partnerinnen angeflirtet. Fazit: wenn man in der Preisklasse ein Ressort führt, muss man für die unterschiedlichen Bedürfnisse der Gäste Verständnis haben und darf nicht alles lapidar abweisen und von sich weisen, nach dem Motto: Hauptsache die Kohle stimmt, alles andere ist mir egal! Also wer etwas Ruhe haben will und entspannen will, ist hier vollkommen am falschen Ort. Zudem sind die Bungalows komplett überteuert und sind gerade mal die Hälfte wert, da sie abgewohnt sind.
