Being a guest here at Memento was AMAZING! I did come in their off season so there wasn't much action going around the area, regardless I had an amazing time. It is one of the cheaper options, but that does not mean that it downgrades. The only negative was not having any internet service, which can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you are looking for. If you can deal without it, then you will have a great time.
First thing people ask me about my experience here is how is the beach? I can't comment much about the events going on, (I heard there are lots of bars and nightlife) but the ocean is so much fun. I'm from California and the water can be pretty cold even in the summer, but in Ngapali it is so warm that I could stay in the water all day. You don't have to worry about freezing even after you get out, and this includes the evening time. It is so humid that you really can't get cold either, so that helps a lot.
Next is the location; the rooms are all bungalows and they are very close to the ocean that you pretty much right on the beach. I would leave my stuff in my room and just run to the ocean in the mornings, and if I needed anything back in my room it was just a few feet away.
The rooms themselves are great. Large room with hardwood floors with a shower, toilet, and they also include other small items like toothbrush and soap. The only thing was the lighting was a little dim. I felt like it was dim most of the time and that was probably because I was out in the sun all day and probably almost blinded myself. Overall, it is a descent room, not anything fancy like some of the other hotels, but it is comfortable. At night is the best because after being tired from playing at the beach all day you go to sleep with the sound of the ocean waves crashing. Best sleep I ever had, hands down.
Finally, my favorite was the staff. Even though I don't speak Burmese and they are limited on English they are so AWESOME! They clean your room everyday, add new fresh towels everyday too. The stay includes breakfast, wish was delicious. I had fried rice with an added egg on top, Burmese pancakes, orange juice and Burmese tea and some fruit. You eat breakfast in the open air too and just watch the waves. When I was there, they happened to be cutting down coconuts from their trees and shared one giant one with me. It was delicious, it was my first time trying real coconut too. If I had any questions they would help me out and they were always very kind.
I really want to go back again and stay here, it was a fantastic experience. It was a great time to unwind, get away from technology and just enjoy and feel positive. It may not be a five star resort, but it had all the...
Read moreWe ended up staying here because the hotel we had originally booked called us to say our room was no longer available. ||Pros - the manager is very helpful. The seafront villas are right on the beach, not too close to the sometimes noisy, smokey beach restaurants but not too far to walk either. The hotel is fairly close to some good restaurants (recommend Htey Htey Restaurant - it's on the road-side, not the beachfront but the seafood is reasonably priced, fresh and deliciously cooked). Ngapali is ridiculously over-priced at the best of times so this hotel is relatively cheap. The restaurant terrace is lovely, breezy, and you can bring your own bottle if you want. The power is usually on - they have a generator, although it's sometimes too low to run A/C. The bathrooms have very little water pressure and are pretty old and tatty looking.||Cons - Some of the staff are very unfriendly and unhelpful. The breakfast is possibly the worst I've ever had at any hotel - we usually went to the resort next door and paid for breakfast there instead, or just had an early lunch. The hotel lunch/dinner menu is also pretty poor - would not recommend eating there at all. At nighttime the resort belongs to the wildlife ... we had a rat in the room, cockroaches ... you can't leave any food around anywhere.||Overall ... if you're on a budget or every other reasonably priced place is fully booked, this isn't a bad option. The location is great. The food is awful but there are plenty of other options. The rooms are dated but fine enough if you plan to spend most of your time...
Read moreI love this hotel!!!! It is not fancy but very nice and clean with air con and the location, staff and service are amazing!!! ||When we arrived staff swarmed our van, not allowing us to carry anything to our rooms.||As I stepped out of the van, the beauty of the ocean was over whelming and it was within steps of our room. ||The price was so good too as we stayed 1 week before high season started ($45/night). Included in the price was a very good breakfast buffet. The sunset picture below was taken from the outdoor restaurant, We ate dinner there several times and the food was very good. It can a little while for them to prepare.||They have laundry service that was incredibly cheap. When I picked up everything was ironed and folded including our underwear.||I highly recommend Memento Resort!! I hope to have the...
