I used this hotel in two capacities while doing a Gokyo-Everest trek led by Mountain Travel Sobek: We used them first upon arrival in Lukla for just our lunch; and then we got unexpectedly stuck in Lukla for 2 nights when a long spell of poor weather/fog moved in. After experiencing some of the higher lodges with very few amenities (like heat or good bedding), I can truly say that Everest Summit Lodge was an outstanding experience that improved my feelings/outlook about getting stuck. The rooms were spacious, the beds were outstanding and included full-length electric heating pads - as well as some of the best pillows and blankets I'd seen in 10 days. The bathroom featured a good sink and flushing toilets - the shower was warm... but not quite hot - but all of these features were, again, a vast improvement compared with how we'd been spending most of our nights higher up. The dining room was heated (they rolled in several large portable heating units) such that every dining experience was warm and pleasant. The staff were uniformly outstanding and generous with seconds/food. Our meals were set plates - i.e. there wasn't a menu - with many good things to choose from (e.g. great soups, pasta, local momos, vegetables)... they also had great baked rolls and even did some cake-y desert. We enjoyed 2 dinners, 2 lunches, and 2 breakfasts during our emergency stay - all was welcome. There is a very large scenic courtyard with grass and trees that is very peaceful - and faces away from the airport. The room windows were also large, providing lovely natural light if you just wanted to sit and read in your room. Loved Everest...
Read moreMy mother and I chose to stay at Shangarila Lodge due to the previous glowing reviews, and the experience certainly did not disappoint. The lodge is situated right above the runway with the most amazing direct views, perfect for those who enjoy plane-watching at the ‘world’s most dangerous airport’ whilst casually sipping tea and enjoying a traditional Nepali breakfast in the morning. ||During our stay we had the pleasure of meeting the manager Santosh Basnyat, who was not only a good story teller offering personal insights into local lives and culture, but also a very talented musician himself, I urge everyone to check out his beautiful songs on YouTube. During our stay of 3 days, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there and felt very well looked after by him + the staff. It was the perfect resting spot for us after 11 days of EBC trek and allowed us to recharge ourselves for the next Mera Peak challenge. ||The food prepared here is definitely THE BEST we’ve had in Lukla, as the ingredients felt freshly prepared and we were told by Santosh that the team is constantly trying to make improvements with the dishes. We are already missing the chicken curry, it was that...
Read moreI started my Mt. Everest BC trekking as a solo traveler and successfully finished it with a help from my dear friend Santosh! ||||After flying to Lukla, I was welcomed to Santosh family restaurant Everest INN with a milk tea and many valuable trekking recommendations (trekking plan, staying in tea houses). The restaurant provides the best scenic view and delicious meals, local and as well western menus (my big wish after the trekking was a hamburger).||||On my last day I trekked from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. This day was very special to me. Looking back on all accomplishments, I was very pleased to share my memories and new difficulties with Santosh. I stayed in his family hotel Everest INN. The rooms are clean and specious, provided with thick blankets and are facing the Lukla airport. Trust me, after the 18 days of trekking, this airport is your most relaxed thought and a desire.||||So, coming back to Lukla brought me some difficulties with the plane ticket but were successfully solved the next day by Santosh friends. He helped me to board on the plane back to Kathmandu. Forever grateful for your service and unlimited help.||||Thank you very...
