Broadway Lodge Motel — Hotel in North Island

Where do I begin?! We had booked a room for an invitee for our event held in Stratford, and looking at the photos online the Broadway Lodge looked like your typical small town motel, perfect for what we required. Oh, how wrong were we! On our invitee's arrival, he was promptly told his booking and several others had been canceled, a group he was not associated with. We had received no such email stating any cancellations, as the last email we had received was the booking confirmation (we checked our junk) so assumed all was fine. Once we arrived at the motel to clarify the situation, a staff member said that Booking.com had canceled our booking. Ironically, we never booked through Booking.com for these exact reasons and booked the hotel through their website. The staff member told us that Booking.com was organizing alternative accommodation for our invitee so after leaving the motel we rang the staff member to confirm as it was getting late in the evening and after various calls he sent us to Booking.com. Three different phone calls with Booking.com stated they had no idea of our situation and had no part in canceling our booking or attempting to find alternative accommodation. After seeing the motel in person we pulled all other invitees from the motel as it was catfish in a motel form. Now looking at other reviews it makes...

Worst experience We arrived 1 hour earlier to our check in time. And asked the manager if we can use the toilts in reception. For that the manager said you came one hour early but room is almost ready and just need to replace a pillow and asked us to check in and he came with a replaced pillow.

We could not stay in the room for even 15 minutes it was not cleaned spiders and spider webs every where in the launge, by the beds in the coupbord, kitchin area, bathroom, and the microwave was very dirty, outside was dirty with hair every whre. And asked we need some sort of refund as we vacated the room in half hour. For which the manager said i will call the owner of the lodge and get us what the can resolve this. The mager came after the call with his boss and said we wont refund any thig its not their falt as we checked in 1 hour early. This was not rigt the manager said room is ready exept for 1 pillow.

Any ways it not safe if you are treveling with family.

Pictures were very deceiving. We always booked with Booking.com but this time we have to doubt and will make us think...

I booked my accommodation 6 months ago for Te Matatini in New Plymouth I was booked in from the 24th Feb - 02nd March 2025 I received and email at 3.54am to say that my booking had been cancelled I tired to contact them all day Sunday they finally got a hold of me late Sunday evening I had been sent a link to accomodation in Hawera and that was further from New Plymouth than Stratford was.

I had a change in circumstances and wanted to change my dates they sent me am email to, say that I couldn't change and I would still be charged the full amount ans then they go and camcel my booking me.

Never use them it is such, ā shame they are in Taranaki as there has been nothing but positive things to say however these buggers are useless...
