Otaki Motel — Hotel in North Island

OK please read until end. Google has no idea where this place is takes you to a place on the opposite side of the road. There was a place on the other side I though might be abandoned. Yep that was the motel. So with much trepidation I pulled into the parking lot and went to the office. I was met by a well presented person who gave me a key and sent me on my way. There are only 5 units I stayed in No 5. I turn the key and entered a very dated looking unit. Two bedrooms one with a queen bed which turned out to be extremely comfortable. The kitchen as the rest of the unit was very dated. But perfectly adequate for my needs with a proper stove/oven plenty of cupboard space and newish plates cups etc. Small fridge. Walked into the bathroom and was very pleasantly surprised to find a very clean modern room with new shower, vanity unit and toilet nothing dated there. There was a table that would comfortable seat four dinner and a very comfortable sofa. Each of the rooms were not cramped bar the kitchen but that was fine. I spent three of the most comfortable days there while painting a house not far away. And I have being doing a lot of out of town work, so have stayed in few places. If you need a place to stay on your way south this place is is very comfortable and warm. If your looking for somewhere clean, comfortable and cheap this is the place. We stayed for 5 nights, though the room lacked a modern touch, that did not dissuade us from enjoying our stay. It was a pleasure to return from a day out to a comfy bed, free wifi and air conditioning, a bonus touch was every 2 days we would return to a made bed, fresh towels, refills of coffee etc, something I did not expect. We got caught in the South Island due to Covid and decided to catch the late ferry rather than fly. The family unit was very welcoming at 1:00am, comfortable beds. warm unit.

I really liked the retro style of the unit and noticed that the new carpet and furniture was in keeping with its original style. I hope they keep the retro look as they upgrade...I love the wood paneling and having breakfast on the back porch.
