Grand Suites Murchison — Hotel in South Island

Sometimes my wife and I disagree on our choice of the best hotel we stayed in during our travels. But on our 2024 NZ vacation, Grand Suites Murchison was the unanimous winner by a clear margin. 🏆

Murchison was an overnight stop for us between Nelson and Greymouth. As we drove past the motel gates, the modern property already felt promising even before we stepped into the room. The young lady at reception was genuinely friendly and got us checked in quickly.

The room was very spacious, in fact I'd say generously spacious. Well designed, well built and pleasingly comfortable to the senses. There's a big effective room heater if it gets too cold. Kitchen comes fully equipped. The bed is comfortable and showers are hot. Even the bath towel rack is heated so wet towels will be dry and warm the next morning. I'm so impressed!

So many hotels, including global brands, can't design a leak proof shower screen door. They should consult with GSM. I love such attention to details because it shows commitment to being the best. It's all the more astounding when you consider that Murchison is not a big town and yet the property owners have invested time and money to do it properly.

Whenever we return to locations that we've previously been before, my wife and I would often try to stay at different properties for a different experience. But if we swing by Murchison again, there's no question we'd stay here again. Why go elsewhere, when we've already...

We are very satisfied with our stay at Murchison.||We went there in May during the autumn season so it was not very crowded. We pleasantly got upgraded from a Superior Deluxe Double to a way more spacious Family Room! We were super happy with the upgrade as we were travelling with a toddler. Having a separate room to let him sleep while still being able to do our own things outside the room is very convenient.||The owners were also very friendly and kind.
