Oamaru Motor Lodge — Hotel in South Island

A clean tidy motel. Has everything required for a short stay. Very quiet at night even though on a busy road. No trouble sleeping. Good shower and a spa bath if that is something wanted. Overall a good unit. Would have rated higher but for the following. As we are on the road for several weeks we have a good basis for comparison. We have had better elsewhere at a lesser cost. No heat Pump. A plug in heater and a plug in fan. Adequate but not great. Also advertised as having so many tv channels but they are all Sky. No Smart TV which surprised me at the price. No chance to watch Netflix, tv+ on demand , YouTube, etc. Only offering Sky is pretty old fashioned nowadays. Rather a 'gloomy' room without not so much natural light. |Still as I said a comfortable place to stay. Next time would look more closely at what is being offered for the price. Awesome! When I asked relatives and some locals where to stay...they had a plethora of suggestions. I happened upon the Oamaru Motor Lodge run by the Zhou family. WOW! Run by the younger generation, Dad still attends to the details and I mean details (I was told a story about a toothbrush at work and could hardly believe it except for Mr Zhou's heritage). Even the sink faucet has a little light that comes on if you're using it at night...brilliant! The spa bathtub was the biggest and best I've had on my journey so far! Cleanliness next to godliness and friendly staff galore. Great job Mr Zhou and family, keep up the great work... Thank you for everything. I had to cancel a one night stay at this motel because of extreme weather in the South Island.||Our proposed motoring holiday was impacted by extreme weather in most of the South Island NZ.||Ice, snow and flooding impacted our ability to travel from Christchurch to Wanaka.||The NZ Transport Agency on their website advised road closures due to ice and snow, especially on the mountain passes. ||I conveyed this information to the Management of the Heritage Court Motor Lodge at Oamaru and asked if a cancellation fee of one night's accommodation could be wavered. ||This was met with a negative response. ||Be aware of this situation, if you find yourself in a similiar situation. ||Management at this motel have no compassion and the facility needs...
